does anyone of you guys know up to which semester can we ask for deferrment?
is the deferrment automatically granted?

I believe that you have to write a letter stating why you need/want a deferrment. Then they must approve it - I do not think that it is automatically granted.

I know I was able to defer 1 semester, but it was fairly informal...it actually happened during the interview...

I would call Gardner and explain your situation. I'm pretty sure they'll allow it since you have an excellent reason. How long though, I don't know. I think I've heard of people deferring up to one year.
