What banks do you use there? I was finding that banks down there are charging a $45 for every transaction fee for wiring money from the US. I obviously would like a bank that does not have fees like this. Credit cards also charge anywhere from 2% (American Express which I don't know how
many places accept that) and 3% for others like visa.

Are there any banks there that are affiliated with Bank of America?

Thanks for any useful tips that you can give me on the subject!!

You're not going to find a bank in Dominica without the wiring fees. Most people deposit their refund check in a bank account in Dominica and then they don't have to worry about wiring money. If you are paying out of pocket then take a large amount of travelers checks with you (free if you have an american express credit card and go to an american express location for the travelers checks) and then deposit a check into your Dominica bank account 3-6 weeks before you need the money each time. That would avoid any fees.

I use the ATM on campus, they charge 2EC per transaction from my US account, that is less than 1 US dollar. Then I just use cash for everything here, it works pretty well and the exchange rate I get from my US bank is pretty good.

I've been reading about withdrawing money from a US account from the ATM with a small fee here and another fee there. What banks are people using in the US? I know the NBD is in cooperation with Citibank/Bank of America as far as wire transfers. What are peoples' experiences with Washington Mutual, Wells Fargo, and other banks drawing on the ATM? Has anyone linked their NDB account to PayPal to transfer money between accounts?

what if you want part of your refund check deposited into a bank in the US(BOA). Do you just wire tx money from your NBD accts to BOA? How much do they charge each time u make such a tx. I'll apprectiate any inputs.

don't forget that the receiving bank will most likely take out a charge for processing the transfer of funds.

NBD is the on campus bank National Bank Of Dominica - We Make Banking Easy (http://nbdominica.com/)

It can be a hassle and time consuming to get an account opened (last I knew you needed a birth certificate) the atms are easy to use on campus.

BOA isn't part of any special affiliation with NBD last time I checked. It was at one time, but you needed a BOA account in NY state.

The other advice is also great. Traveler's checks, etc.

You'll want a NBD account while you're their, att least to deposit your "refund" into.

A few places take plastic near campus, but cash is generally preferred and easier.
