in a meeting with clinical directors, my fly on the wall tells me, that they were issued with in information, that showed a significant number of people were allowed to walk in the graduation ceremony in May even though they were nowhere near completing 80 weeks!! We aren't talking a few weeks here people. So I assume that their diploma scroll boxes were empty? well, was it? and if so, I've never heard of a respectable university allowing such practice! Doesnt it defile the whole point of graduation? were you standing beside someone who had just been awarded an empty box?

It appears the reason behind this was they had space at the lincoln hall this May and that due to the amount of people expected to graduate in May 2009 they might be struggling for space...so some bright spark decided to let a load of unqualifieds walk this May instead.

SGU needs to hire a bigger hall it would seem......

your previous post about the UK may be well founded, but really...is this anything to complain about?

realize that the graduation ceremony date and the completion dates were NOT the same...

this years graduation was on may 3rd...the 1st completion date was may 9th, so many, many many people were scheduled for the appropriate completion and may have had anywhere from 1 to 5 weeks left of their rotations and were fully eligible to walk...

the number that had more than that to complete was not many (at least in the jan class, can't speak for the aug term) and it was noted in the program that the candidates were for dec 2008. Generally these were probably people who wanted to graduate with the people they spent the last 4+ years with, not 500 people they don't know...

and FYI, ALL the scrolls were blank...your diploma is mailed after your completion date....

Rok is right on. Your graduation ceremony date and your graduation date are not necessarily the same. MANY universities US and world wide allow you to participate in commencement exercises although you have not completed your coursework.
