What is life really like at SGU? Is it impossible for one's spouse to find a job? If I were to come to SGU would I be able to bring my dog? My husband is an audio recorder and records bands would be be able to obtain a work visa and do this in our house?

SGU has a significant others group that you may find helpful if you're planning to bring your spouse. Here's a link to their site soorgsgu - Calendar of Events (http://soorgsgu.googlepages.com/).

Life is fine. My spouse is with me (and our 2 kids) and we all enjoy it. Your spouse will most likely not be able to get a work visa since unemployment is 60% in GND and jobs are reserved for locals. Some spouses work from home -graphic design, financial trading, photography, etc but they are working remotely for their companies in the US. I think the only way you could swing a visa is if some local band needed your spouse to help them out and helped to get the visa approved. You can bring your dog - there are lots of students with pets in GND - though you will have to find off-campus housing.

I even know of an SO that was able to get a job as a divemaster. A local Dive shop trained him and everything.

I heard about that too. I guess they will train you for free and then you work it off by being a divemaster for them. Not sure if any money changes hands.

I think he will be making some money after a bit. I think he just was looking for something to do.

Yeah, that is the reason my girlfriend does not bring her dog through barbados. All the vet students avoid that place with thier pets.

A little off topic, but I read a thread that mentioned that you needed a student body card to get on campus. Is this true? My wife was wondering if she would have access to the library for research?

significant others (SO's) are allowed to get ID cards that give them full access on campus just like the students. The ID cards are valid for 1 yr. You'll need to have a passport size photo and some form of ID; a passport will be fine and we were allowed to email a clerk an appropriately sized photo since we didn't bring one.
