The first hint that my previous school, MUAB, was in financial trouble was a decline is bathroom amenities. BYOTP became the rule, and then the whole joint folded.

It hasn't gotten to the point of BYOTP at Xavier, but it's reached the level of BYOPT. For the acronym-challenged, the former means Bring Your Own Toilet Paper, and the latter Bring Your Own Paper Towels.

I had a discussion, hands dripping, with the cleaning lady a few minutes ago about this chronic situation. My Spanish has declined somewhat since I returned from the abortive startup in Panama, so when I asked why there were no paper towels in the men's room, she handed me a roll of toilet paper. I refined my vocabulary, together with some body language indicating I meant toalla por las manos, and she said she had none.

Come on, guys, they just spent thousands of dollars on new medical books to put in the "libarary"; did they get that money from the paper towel budget?

I'm old enough to remember the days of pay toilets in the states. They were eventually outlawed, but here in Aruba anything is possible. Are we to see pay toilets to finance the purchase of paper towels? How about a hot air hand dryer? Has anyone formed a committee to do a cost analysis, and estimate how long it would take to recover the cost by replacing paper towels with the device?

The culture of the Perl programming language includes the aphorism that easy things should be easy, and difficult things should be possible. The same should apply to med school. Is keeping some means of drying hands easy or difficult? Please post your opinions.

I think he has a life - life needs to be pleasant - I always use to check the bathrooms. How a company treats their workers in the loo tells a great deal about how rotten the management is. Better conditions - good management - bad conditions - idiots and silly people in management.
