I searched in this forum and the SUSOM web site and could not find details about whether the Elective Courses offered during the basic sciences are optional or required. Are we required to do X credits of Elective Courses during the 1st 5 semesters?

No such thing as electives here. You take the courses in the order they are prescribed per semester. Some have to repeat a course, are on academic probation, and are on a reduced course load. If you elect to go the reduced course load route even though you are passing all your classes, which some have turned into a career here, you don't have to take an entire semester load. I don't know what the school website says about courses and required electives, but I wouldn't rely on the website for any information period. If you wanted to do the hyperbaric program, I guess you could consider that elective work. But that is more fees and a masters.
