I am still in High school but I have not decided my pre-med. :)
Why do you want to start pre-med in Sgu instead of doing it in the states ?

That's a really good question...but after going to UCI for 6 months i figured i would rather sacrifice those 5 years in SGU, due to the fact that it cuts out all the **. In UCI i had to take all these breathe requirements that had nothing to do with my major, i know a lot of ppl would argue that all those extra courses are good in order to expand your knowledge (which is true, don't get me wrong), but I think i can do without women's studies courses and national gangs courses when i'm an econ major. Therefore i choose to go to St. George, it gets me straight into the process. Another reason is that when you go through the premed program at St. Georege you don't have to stress about taking your MCATs which was another plus. LOL...i hope this post doesn't make me sound lazy. But, regardless it's not like it's going to be easy at SGU, so i'm def not cutting myself slack by going there. I hope i answered your question.

lol trust me everyone cooks! well it depends on your suitemates actually...my floor used to cook all the time but then agen there r sum people who think cookin has sumtin to do with not being able to afford to eat out. Its not true though..cuz trust me once you see/taste the food on campus u wll prolly wanna cook everything yourself!! People eat out sometimes but it is expensive and saving some money doesnt hurt:)
I never knew how to cook anything..i would put my mom on speaker and bring my fone to the kitchen and then cook..it was quite funny but i did learn how to cook!!:D

THANK YOU doctor95!! I thought "triple occupancy" meant 3 people per room. Which years were you in premed?

ur welcome:)
If they said u were placed in the triple occupancy suite..they mean that its one big aprtment type place..with 3 huge rooms(compared to the rest of the rooms on campus)..So 2 people share each of these rooms and have plenty of space so ur not in each others face all the time and u guys share a bathroom as well. So there are 6 people all together in this one aprtment thing and u all share a kitchen. Its pretty decent becuase my frends lived in those and loved it! I think it's probably the best housing on campus.
I started in 2-1 at SGU and just finished my last premed semester(3-2). So spent 2 years there but i was in the Y buildings..which is the undergrad building and u have your own room and share the bathroom/kitchen with 12 other people.
I hope i didnt confuse u lol

Wow thanks again for the information, here I was thinking I'd be sleeping with 2 other people in one tiny room. So you just finished your third year eh? I'm entering year 3-1 this august. I have so many questions for you if you don't mind :).... Are the lectures recorded? If they are not, would you recommend a recorder? I have a printer here at home, I know the library offers free printing but would u say it's useful to have a personal one? Also I know that most people are all for laptops and power to em, but since I'll only be entering Premed aaaand I'm a desktop lover, how big is the desk... could it fit a decent sized flat screen (i know, not needed). How was the PMSCE? Which courses would you say were the most challenging and require extra effort? I know I've overloaded you here, but if you could even answer one of them I would be endebted to you!

hi there doctor95. Well i have a question for you, I was wondering about the clinical rotations. My understanding is that you have 2 years of rotations either in the US or UK. But the question is, can you do one year in the UK and one year in America?

lol i dont mind:)
lectures..in 3-1 genetics is recorded but honestly thats the last lecture u wanna listen to llol but u def need a recorder for biochem! its really helpful cuz the lec is at 8 am and most people dont really pay any attention to the lecture. I used to ask my frend for the recordings cuz i didnt have one but its good to have ur own:) If u decide not to get one forr 3-1, u shud get it for 3-2 cuz only micro n physio r recorded and u want to record molec as wel cuz its really helpful. So, u cud jus buy one or ask ur frendz for the recordings. But u dont need it for med cuz all the lecs are recorded( i believe so) so i didnt bother buyin a recorder myself!
Theirs enough deskroom for premed buildings but the problem arises when u get to med and thts when the rooms are smaller and u share with someone( in most cases). So u woudnt really have a problem with ur desktop until u get to med. I would say go with the laptop jus to save the hassle of shippin and stuff but its upto u:)
The PMSCE..um we didnt get time to study for it..we finished finals on thursday and the PMSCE was on friday..so i jus slept cuz i didnt wanna be sleep deprived! biochem questions were very detailed, anatomy was easy..um genetics was like did we stuudy this?, and umm micro/molec were pretty decent( after the type of qs we have seen over the term in quizzes/midterms/finals) lol
hope this helps:)

Hey there musikjunkie, well first of all congrats on getting an interview. Secondly, I totally agree with you on going directly into it (MD) instead of wasting time. Personally, i think the undergrad process takes too long in the United States, and your energy is diverged in too many other things. So in regards to that, CHEERS, and good luck!

undergrad programs at SGU have rolling admissions, so you can still apply. It is competetive, but from my understanding, not nearly as much as med school. For the program itself, you need at least a 3.2 I think, so shoot for around there.
The downside is that its extremely expensive for most people. And there is no financial aid available until medical shcool.

as the previous says, it is not difficult to get into the Premed program. The GPA and course requirements depend on your year of entry. So for example if you are planning to enter by year three, then you should try and maintain something of at least the B (3.0) range. In your third year however you will need to have at least a 3.2 to proceed to the SOM. If you land between a 3.0-3.2 then you will proceed to an alternate medical program, but still an MD. You also need to pass the PMSCE at the end of that year... which i have no idea about since I'll be going for the first time this august!

Well Amberina, I'll share my stats with you in order to provide you with a general idea for how SGU accepts its applicants, although i'm sure it varies. My case was a little bit different, as i mentioned before, due to the fact i went to UCI for a semester (6 months) and then withdrew. Therefore SGU had to look at my highschool GPA, which was a 4.0-4.2 (cummulative), and my SAT score which was about an 1800 ( I also played a lot of sports, was involved in volunteer services at the hospital for 4 years, and did other such extracurriculars). They also requested that i send my UCI transcript for the time i did attend (GPA 3.4). So after i turned in my application, i got an interview within 3 weeks, and after the interview, i was accepted 2 weeks later. My brother also applied (straight out of highschool) and he had a cummulative GPA of a 4.3-4.5 and a SAT of about 1850, including numeruos extra curriculars as well. I hope that helps, but i'm sure every scenerio is different.

Hi,
Can students in the premed program answer the following questions?:
1) How many people from premed(year2) successfully go on to premed(year3)?
2) How many people from premed(year3) successfully go on to the MD program?

What country are you from? I thought a 4.0 was the highest GPA a student could get.

What country are you from? I thought a 4.0 was the highest GPA a student could get.Actually that depends on the school system and not the country. Some high schools and colleges have an A+ > 95 as a 4.5. For colleges you have to have the 4.5 grades changed to a 4.0 for the AMCAS application. Level playing field.
