Money for clinical rotations? SGU has a much higher tuition.

The last tuition increase followed an announcement of new clinical rotations, too.

The tuition was increasing even when we were losing rotation spots. There is no relation. The price will go up as long as people are willing to pay. Ross is a business, nothing more.

Heck, I wouldn't mind if Ross increased tuition to SGU levels if it meant I had a guaranteed core schedule set up for the entire year at all ACGME approved schools mostly falling in the areas where I wanted to be. I would be willing to pay and pay well for that. A couple thousand here or there would be worth it to me if I didn't have to play the "call the clinical advisor 4 times a day" game. That kind of peace and mind and stability is well worth the extra tuition IF Ross were to guarantee that. What would you guys say? Would you be willing to pay $1000 - $2000 right now if Ross guaranteed that it could get you all ACGME approved cores scheduled for a year without any possibility of you getting bumped or missing graduation?

Yes, but doesn't SGU assign all cores in 3rd year and they're all green. Sounds like it's worth the extra $.

I think by the time we do our clinicals, the situation will be somewhat better. I do think they sent the mail about adding more clinical sites right before the tuition hike as a smart business strategy though!

that's exactly right. It makes sense to give a little good news before some bad news. This is the relationship.

Of course Ross is a business, but do you think these spots are free? It is how businesses work--they pass on the cost.

alarming,
how are the students coping with the hike? bet quite a few having the toughest financial times, what to do? drop out? delay? go home work? transfer? :-)

it wasn't that much of an increase.

they increase $1000 average per semester. That equals almost a 10%+ increase per year... "not much of an increase"????

frightening isn't? the worst thing that can happen, is drop out or transfer out because no money to sustain you to finish through, and you can't get your loan amount increased.

That sucks. At least they could increase the loan amount by the same tuition increment. $ 1000.00 less on a loan refund check is a lot especially for those of us planning or are in rotations in NY where it's just dirt cheap to live.

I dont remember exactly, but did they not increase the loan amount when they increased tuition last time?

Unfortunately as much as I can recall, they did not compensate by increasing our loan amounts. So instead of a $ 8,792.00 refund check, this probably means we will be getting a $ 7,792.00 refund check. That blows.
