My wife and I are moving to Birmingham, Michigan on Tuesday 7/1/08, and were wondering if any VMD'ers might be able to recommend any good, inexpensive UHAUL unloading help for the occasion. I posted an ad on CL, and I know there are quite a few companies offering this type of service out there, but we are on a pretty tight budget and need to save a little coin if at all possible.

We will have a 24' truck with a fair amount of boxes, some furniture, and a few appliances. Ideally, we were hoping to enlist a crew of 2 people. We will be there promptly at 3:00 PM, and will pay for at least 3 hours, even if the job gets knocked out faster than that.

Anyone in the area have any suggestions, or better yet, would anyone be interested in making a few bucks and showing off their ripped physique all at the same time? Win-win situation! Thanks in advance!

I had a feeling this may be one of those posts that gets looked, but no responses.

I wonder, does that mean no one had any decent suggestions, or is there no one with a super ripped physique that wants to show it off? I'll go with the latter!

I actually got better-than-expected response from CL, so it appears I'll be all set.

FYI to those that end up in similar situations: Moving companies and businesses charge way too much for these services, and there are a decent amount of people out there that really need the work and the money on CL that are reasonable and will negotiate. Just something to think about next time you have a big move. I just hope they don't drop, break, or steal my stuff!

Look at a local soup kitchen and offer the work... I will bet you will get at least 2 people willing to work for a good wage.

I had a buddy that was moving, he needed help, so he didn't tell anyone that he was moving. He sent out an email about a party with free beer and BBQ with date time and directions. When everyone showed up they got put to work.

Of course he kept the promise on the beer and food, but its a small price to pay to load a truck in no time at all.

Hey I know my lawn care guys do stuff like that too. I am sure you'll see a million of them so just hit one up if he doesn't do it I am sure he can call someone who will.
Good luck and welcome to the area. Email us if you want to get together.

be careful with this approach. i know some of the folks who hang out at home depot looking for work also like to sue if they tweak their back

do two men and a truck. i have used them four times throughout my many moves and allways worth the price. they have a two hour min at $89 per hour for two people and a truck..i never used the truck just use dthem to load and unload heavy things..i did all the boxes and light stuff and they did the washer/dryer/couch/bbq etc. absolutely worth the $190 duckets

alternatively you can go to mexican town and early in the morining at gas stations or home depot there are day laborers that you can get for $20an hour each. in chicago its in mexican rown and polish town. issue with these is that they aren't insured and if they get hurt you are in deep trouble
