Few questions. Im really stressed out mainly because of the fleight and when to book:
1) What's my best bet flying from DC/NOVA? I am mainly concerned about the luggage (not being lost, and maximum weight) as opposed to comfort and customer service. I grew up in a third world country and can suck it up (I think).
2) I'm on a waiting list for a US school. To be realistic, I won't make it (long story short: I met with the dean). Are there airlines that would refund my ticket, incase I get into school in the US and have to cancel the fleight?
3) whats the soonest date I can arrive on the island and not need a hotel, and whats the soonest date for the return fleight?
Thanks all and I hope I don't get the answer "do a search" lol

check Cheap Flights, Airline Tickets, Cheap Airfare & Discount Travel Deals - Kayak.com (http://www.kayak.com) for a good site to do comparisons for flights

What may be more beneficial is getting flight insurance or seeing if your credit card offers some sort of refund policy or insurance for flights, to include cancellations based on the customer (not cancellations due to weather, etc)
In most cases, you can change the flight, but there'll be a flight change fee, and sometimes a flight cancellation fee.
3) whats the soonest date I can arrive on the island and not need a hotel, and whats the soonest date for the return fleight?I think it's August 10th, but I could be wrong...med classes end December 12th.
[Thanks all and I hope I don't get the answer "do a search" lolYes, you need to search since its a great tool and some of these questions have already been answered...

I booked Air Jamaica from BWI. I figured if they use A320's there's a good chance that my luggage will make it down.
I was thinking of booking American, but they seem to use island-hopper planes where the likelihood of your baggage not making it on seems high. Besides that, American sucks for many reasons.

AJ loses luggage during peak. They ditched mine for 5 days, and that seems to frequently be the norm in August.
Of course, AA has stuck me in Point Salines for 7 hours, lost my luggage once for two days, once for 10 days, so good luck!
Liat, so far, has avoided screwing up a trip to and from Trinidad, but I don't trust them.
Just make sure real essentials are in your carryon. AJ's got the max weight limit though.
Cancellation may depend on the time in advance you give. Not sure.
No clue when they're opening the dorms. The third termers are coming in about a week, so there may be a little more leeway, but no telling.

As long as I get my luggage there and unmolested, I'm happy.
Although now that I've said that, they'll probably misplace it and find it in time for my return flight in December.

I would suggest contacting your travel agent and asking for charter flights (you can't book these yourself). They might be fully booked by now, but I got an awesome deal flying with skyservice from Canada. Check out Zoom too.

I agree! I just had to do some last minute changes and found pretty decent prices on AJ.
