I was reading a current student's blog, and I saw that when IT configures laptops for access to campus wireless, they get rid of any pre-existing anti-virus software you may have, and replace it with Norton, and then charge EC$30 for it...Is there a particular reason why they do this? Is it possible to not have them do this?

The reason is that they want to charge you 30 EC.
I don't think you can opt out of it.
I deleted their Norton and reinstalled my own anti virus

Two questions:

1. What type of configuration does the IT department do? I'd prefer to setup my computer and not let someone else screw around with it.

2. Is the campus Mac friendly?

Thank you.

if you want to access internet on campus, but dont want to get your comp configured, you need to find someone (fellow classmates) who has the info for accessing the network.

so ask upper classman or fellow classmates. someone always knows someone :)

you dont need to get configured to get onto the campus network... even if you went to IT they'll set up the STD (campus network) for you.

If you don't get your computer configured you can't print to the print center directly from your laptop and you won't have a "G-drive" icon to connect to the campus drive directly; you'd just have to log onto the campus drive via the net instead of directly.
