Hello, im curious to know. ive been noticing that students are transferring out of SMU to schools such as AUA and its not always because of failure. Is it because the whole idea of 5th semester being on the island rather in the states or loan issues? Because coming to AUA doesnt really solve your loan issues. Wanted to know the reason. Thanks.

i feel that many people leave becuase of the loan issue....but if some people consider davenport...you can get alot of money through Sallie Mae

davenport is a joke. i know people who spend way to much time on stupid davenport then they do on med school work. Especially for a stupid MBA we will never have any use for. I did it and the class was absurdly easy but i know people who are doing it and it takes up way to much time cause the prof is idiot. Its a complete joke that the school thinks that davenport is a viable option for all students.

My reason to transfer out of SMU was due to the situation and major deficiency with clinical rotations. Couldn't be happier in my decision to transfer out, as the problem with rotations that existed many months ago continues to exist and worsen today!

My $.02!

Good luck :)

AUA has the same loan situation as SMU. To my knowledge SMU students transfer to AUA because of their 5th semester located in miami and due to their surplus of clinical rotations.

In a couple of semesters when more AUA students begin to pass their step, their surplus of clinical rotations will turn into a deficit.

lots of ppl leave because they are kicked out and they just don't want to fess up, so they give other excuses. all the other carib schools outside of those w/ federal funding are in the same loan issue.

When I was ticked off last semester about the loans I considered transferring, then read Ross' forum and complaints about rotations and stayed put. I'm happy where I am so far. It depends on the person and the "one thing" they can't stand, I guess. Kind of like wanting to get a divorce coz your spouse is a drunk then the other girl you wanna leave her for has other problems worse than your wife's, so you stay with who you got.

If I was forced to leave SMU it would probably be financial reasons but since AUA also ain't Title IV either I'd have the same problems there too.

Unless someone's transfering to Ross or SGU , etc , there's no point to leave SMU. I personally don't see how AUA can have less problems than SMU. Its also weird because in my class (2nd semester) I've met a group of 3 AUA students that just transfered to SMU and they love it here, So it prob goes both ways.

I know someone here like that too. And (s)he told me the probs they had there and I was like "wow" each school has it's own set of probs.

You Are Comparing 2 Different Things ,
Smu Is Good For Basic Sciences, So Thats Why U See Aua Students In Your 2nd Semester Class....but Aua Is Better For Clinical Spots And Miami If That Matters To You.

For an OCD person like me, it is bothersome in a weird kinda way. But than again I am weird (like sweeping the carpet has to be done in a perfectly straight lines) Off topic. I know. lol

Mellsworth I work with a renowened OCD physician here at the NIH that would be of great help. He can help. There is help for OCD. Now they are talking about doing deep brain stimulation for severe cases.

LOL!

:D

every school has issues. period. find out what matters the most to you (california, minimal time off the mainland, where rotations are, funding) BEFORE you start med school then make a sound decision.

Or take your only available option like I did. It makes the decision process easy. I highly recommend it.
