Hey guys I was recently accepted in SMU for FALL 08 and i need to get a new laptop. I was thinking about getting a Mac but wanted to make sure this wouldn't give me a problem on the island as far as running certain programs that we might need to use.
Any input is welcome...please current students tell me what you think. If it's easier I will just stick with windows but if it doesn't matter then I will switch over to mac. Thanks.

I have a PC but several of my classmates (at least 20) have macs. They seem to follow along just fine. I don't know anything about programming so I'll let someone else chime in on that one.

go with mac, and if you happen to run a windows exclusive software you can always use bootcamp on mac.

I have a MAC, and love it
just as long as you Microsoft Office for Mac, you'll do just fine.

I prefer windows because that's what I've used for so long. Either of them will get the job done. Go with what you're comfortable with.

Mac works pretty well. The only time that I have had problems is when I am trying to hook up my computer to the school for presentations (I'm a vet student and my class is very small, so we give tons of presentations). I don't know if the medical students do as much of that since their class sizes are so much larger than ours. But other than that I love my apple!

The number of presentations we do in med is 0. So many of us I shudder at the thought of my 235 class giving presentations one by one.
