hahaha....only for those days (3 days b4 a final) when you get last minute notes, and you study at the dorms...and don't have time to run to the library to print out those notes...
and for the lame concept maps that we make in 10 minutes before lab every monday....
i actually draw up my concept map literally in lab. i take out my rapid review, and i draw a bunch of circles that seem to connect. this way i don't waste time outside doing stupid things for classes...

while we're at it...also bring a magnifying glass...to read the fine prints on the slide bc that's where the test questions are most likely to come from...the least emphasized points...also bring some imagination, bc you'll need a lot of it when they take down the path slides from lecture from sonic foundary and the handouts you get are put together by morons at the printing company...oh and also bring a translator... no explanation for this one...

A-freaking-men to that. Fighting the entire school for 1-5 functional available printers in the 15 minutes before your slides are due is not fun, particularly since half the library computers suddenly started developing conniption fits when they encounter a flash drive.

Oh, you'll need it for class too and for reading your lab slides when the printers run out of toner.

Yeah. What the hell is up with that? Takes 3 minutes to just get a word file off the damn flash drive. Oh, and then ufo.exe comes up on my laptop's virus scanner when I plug in at home?
Thank goodness for Lola. Petting her keeps my BP down.

I never printed out my slides. I brought my laptop and flash drive to lab and transferred my slides to my lab partners' computers via jump drive. I then just presented from powerpoint on my laptop. However, since class size has increased since I was a student in Grenada, printer may not be a bad idea, just a pain to bring down from home (by the way, make sure you bring enough ink).

No clue; it's really weird. Not sure why they can't update the labs a bit and keep the comps running; maybe buy a few more printers, keep the installation and drivers updated so we don't have to reinstall them every time we boot up, etc.

Awwww, Lola. That was her hanging outside the path lab right? She made it in for both days during our forensic cases, and the odd thing was the tutors didn't seem to mind much. Wonder if they made her turn in a concept map.

for those who bring a printer, where do you get paper from? Are they cheap in Grenada? Are you able to take a stack of paper from the printer when it is not running?

ahh...that is because you haven't found the "secret" printers on campus...made my life in path so much easier!

Gotta find those. All the classroom printers are usually taken up by active classes when ya need them.
Still, I don't think I'll bring one for the last term, but if I could advise my last term self, I'd have stuck in a small printer.

The ink, guys. What about the ink? I saw a guy burn through a few hundred EC just in ink costs alone over path printouts. Any cheaper way of doing (that's available/can be shipped to GND)?

Buy in bulk at costco or sams and bring them with you. I easily spent over a hundred just getting 1 set of replacement black and color cartridges. I also had to go to 4 different computer stores to get the right ones. It was a total pain.

IMHO: Bringing a printer down is a waste of money/luggage space.
Protip: email yourself the file(s) you want to print. That way it'll be faster, no need to worry about your usb stick not being detected, and no concern over viruses/trojans jumping aboard your usb stick.

I have a epson c88 that i will bring down that you can buy spongeless cartridges for. All you do is just refill it with bulk ink which is cheap as hell. that is what i plan on doing in Grenada.

or what you can do is NOT print out a slide for everyone in your path group. or just bring your laptop and read from that. what i would do is not even print out my slide. i would just jot some quick notes down with respect to what i want to present. the printer will mainly help in times when you need to print some notes 3 days before the test and you dont have 40 minutes to waste walking to the library and fighting with the printer.
if you you really want to print YOUR slide and your slide only, you can just make the font super small. sometimes i would present out of robbins (morphology section ;)

If you really must print out slides for path lab, I would recommend coming up with a uniform template covering all areas that need to be discussed (make a table on word) and a common font and size with your lab group on day 1. For each image, the person will fill out the required boxes on the table covering all necessary areas such as, etiology, morphology, etc. (it's important to label each table with slide number, date, topic). After each lab session or slide section, combine each word table from every group member onto a jump drive, and each week make a group member responsible of putting all tables together into 1 word document. Then he/she will print out a copy for every person in the group. Images aren't necessary, since each page has been numbered with slide number and topic. This way images can be reviewed on your computer as you read along. I found this was helpful for me because it put the information in a concise, organized manner and it made sure people didn't slack in the amount of work they did, since you had the information being presented in front of each group member to inspect.

asides from printing your slides i really meant those weekends before your exam when you needed to print some notes you typed out or a friend typed out. walking to the library and back can take around 40 minutes and we all know that 40 minutes the weekend of your path exam is a VERY LONG time to not be studying...i dont know. when i made this thread, i was at home while it was raining hard outside and i needed to print some ovary notes a friend sent me but i couldnt do it bc 1) the time 2) the rain. but it all depends on you. A LOT of people do great w/o a printer but it is just nice to have if you can AFFORD it.

though im not 3/4th term yet i highly reccomend bringing a printer,i couldnt study off the laptop for some reason, maybe the screen was too bright or something but i need to highlight and get stuck in the good ol' fashined way of paper and pencil.I rationaled that if im going there to study then everything that makes my life easier to do that is essential, food and home comforts can take any space thats left.Bring a printer, trust me,you wont regret it and you can leave it there until 6th term.

don't forget the Steps are computer-based now, so it might be a good idea to get used to reading/"studying" online.

VERY good advice! Our path group didn't go through that whole mess of "print off every slide for every single person in the group". We had a couple of people who liked writing notes on paper slides so they grabbed all of it for the day off the drop box and printed out the ones they wanted. We had a designated "annotator" if you can call it that ;) Everything was in one format, in word documents and when the path tutor came along, this person added in the key info to the slides and edited them directly on their computer when the tutor was talking to us. At the end of the week, we compiled the newly edited slides into one folder and passed them out to everyone on memory sticks. It took about 5 min. at the end of the last lab of the week...no fussing around with "who's got my sheet with my notes on it" crap. It was fast and organized and I did all of my studying off of my computer screen, and yes, I partly contribute the amount of time I spent studying from my computer screen to me doing well and feeling comfortable during Step I. So, just another was of doing things, AND you're saving paper too! :D

I bought a pretty nice inkjet printer in Grenada and it was something like $70 - well worth it in my opinion. Used it for two years and then sold it on to another student. I got the cartriges from home.
