ok... so i heard that the MSPE letter that the school makes is horrible! format is bad... grammar is horrible.. its just like they copied and pasted or something...soooo i heard that I should get a copy of it before they send it out... i plan on applying for the 2009 match.. so my applications arent going to be out until April 1st.. but they want most of the supplemental stuff handed in the ERAS or whatever by the end of July cuz it takes ERAS 4 weeks to scan everything in. Sooooooo question is... should i request that letter now and have them send it to me so i can proof read it? or wait till i finish my last core.. and all my evaluations are in because the MSPE letter is a composition of all the evaluations? or is that the deans letter? I'm confused... any clarification please? ;0)

yea they will let you see it and you can edit any typos

but it has to be in a certain format, which has to include comments said about you from your attendings, therefore if you do not have a comment written or had some negative or neutral comments they will be listed for your core rotations

it is a standard format used by US schools
the MSPE is the Dean's letter....the old name was Dean's Letter now it is called MSPE

basically 4 parts.

1st is identifying info about the school. it just sums up the cali-ny-florida-texas approvals, ACCM accredidation, WHO directory listing, DoE equivalency of ACCM to LCME.

2nd is unique charateristics. it is basically stuff taken from your med school application and any supplemental CV you sent to your hospital rotation site. it just listed my previous volunteer work, shadowing, undergrad research, etc in a paragraph format.

3rd lists your step scores, basic science gpa, class rank, whether you passed all core exams, and clinical gpa (still dont know where this is from since i know i didnt score close to 90% on all the shelf exams )

explains how an honored rotation is obtained

4th there is just a cut and paste job of comments from evals.

thats all that is in the mspe letter.

now after talking to a few PD's, they said that all caribbean mspe letters are garbage anyway so they dont care about them:lol:

Not just from Caribbean schools, but almost all schools not certified by LCME.

Does the Dean's letter include negative comments from your evals or just the good ones??

for the most part..... all of my comments were positive as were other students that i knew. some of them were dry with lack of an effort put into them like "good student and will make good doctor", but none are negative any any eval that i received. and yes.... for the most part..... they all appear in the mspe letter..... its a cut and paste job.
