Just thought I'd create a thread for the SMU grads who are doctors to answer questions to dispel all the rumors that unfortunately come up on this site.

Those who ask questions: state your semester or year

Those who answer questions: state your position

Please be patient with answers... July 1st is just around the corner.

Anatomy: Use Netter's Atlas, Netter's flashcards, BRS. Learn the language of anatomy. Things are usually named for where they are or what they do. Learn as much as you can and then teach others for reinforcement.
Histology: No idea. New professor.
Embryo: Cake
Biostat: Joke
PD 1: Changed since I took it.

Overall: Work hard during the blocks so you only have to review the weekend before exams. Less stressful. Have confidence, don't be afraid. Med school is 50% attitude.

i pretty much study everyday...so when it comes time for blocks.. i dont have to put in 12 hour days... (even though i do)

Anatomy: go over powerpoints, review BRS
Histology: Key Points from Dr. O is all you need.... the more you understand them and not memorize them, the more it will help in path
Embryo: weekend before exam
Bisotats: Day before Exam
PD: I Take in on WEd. i can give you an update then

Stay disciplined...as the last poster mentioned study every day. Do not wait until a few days before the test to start studying.

Use resources that work for you (BRS, ridiculously simple series, kaplan etc)

Study with groups (as long as they are serious)

don't sleep on embryo. lots of important stuff there. same w/ histo (u'll see when u come to patho).

best advice - prior to coming to med school take a 2 semester human anat/phys course. it will really put you ahead and give you an advantage in the long run.

I agree about the histo. The path prof cuts on our class all the time because we don't remember any histo.

Also to add to your point, histo is a very challenging subject to teach which requires visual efforts and memorization.... just like Biochem. .... but gschneid is right, ... histo is the foundation of pathology,... there is simply no shortcut in medicine !
