well it's pretty much down to three scenarios.
1. you have good credit rating-- get a bank loan/profesional line of credit.
2. you know someone with good credit, who is willing to risk it on you.
3. Direct assistance program: Read the financial aid forum... The info is pending, but it's my (and many others) only option.
good luck

There is a discussion on June 20th about financial aid options for Saba. See Covarubious' post.

just out of curiosity, has anyone actually heard from saba that they will be releasing the DAP during this chat? Or have we all just jumped to that conclusion?

i asked Liz about that in the chat, if financial aid will have info on DAP and she said yes, that is the goal....

For those with initiative; call or email the office for the info.

or collect yourself, prepare and have your questions ready for an extended uninterrupted chat with other people who might even have questions you might not have thought of yourself. the chat was designed to get everybody together and efficiently disseminate as much information as efficiently as possible. we can either get together in the chat session or have 50 + people barrage the office with the same questions. I would assume that fin. aid. rep. would be more prepared (I hope) with detailed answers by friday.

heh, trust me, i've tried both, and I get the same response, 'don't worry, we'll release the details soon, but we'll get it covered' in summary.
However, I don't want to wait forever, because if this doesn't work out i'd be studying for my MCAT and applying to Canadain schools right now for 2009 sept.

if you read mike and khann4's post obviously calling or e-mailing the office will be a waste of time as there is no info to for them to give so why spend the money on the long distance.

heh, i put down my netters, and physiology and just picked up an mcat guide.. I'm assuming the worst, and am preparing to write the mcat for the last day possible to apply for UBC. (August 26th). Hopefully 3 hours a day until then will be good enough? :) Then I'm also going to apply to one ontario school... Other then that, I don't see any loan options working out for any other place in the world.

Just a little FYI. I know you think you are going to get all the most up to date info from chatting with admin, but their track record on disseminating accurate and reliable info is less than stellar. They like to follow the mushroom approach. Here on the island we are kept in the dark. I won't even say what they are feeding us.

unfortunately they are the only people we can talk to... i assume its people in head office and admin who are setting up the loan stuff or at least are the only ones with direct access to those that are so our only option is to wait for them to release the info and hope that what they are saying is accurate...

I think that the school is sometimes not entirely transparent, but I don't think it's different at any other medical school in my discussions and observations with others. I think that sometimes there just isn't much for them to say that is relevant to us, anyway. They are flat figuring out this loan thing as they go.
They won't be a lot more serious about the DAP program or other loan option until it effects their bottom line. Right now I get the feeling supply of qualified students (meaning those they think they can bring up to snuff) with $$$ is plenty to fill classes in their view. Maybe I'm wrong, and they are doing all they can.
Either way, it doesn't matter. If you can't find a way to finance Saba the day you are filling out your application, then you need to do what it takes to go somewhere else. That's the free market at work.
