It'll be like any other rotation. You have to go in early, round, you'll have call.... you got lectures most days of the week. Study at home or when you think you may have some downtime at the hospital.

Go see patients during the day and study at night. Best way to do it.

Peds up here is a 8 weeks. 4 weeks inpatient and 4 weeks outpatient. Every Monday morning u have to go to work then at noon u drive to st johns morose for grand rounds and just 3 hours of lectures. tuesday u have to go to a lecture at 730 at st johns then drive back to work and the week goes on as normal. the schedule for Inpatient is 730-430 m-f with weekends off. Outpatient is 9-5 with weekends off. The rotation is pretty good yet watch out from Dr K in NICU he will PIMP u with the most detailed questions. Study Kaplan if u can before u have him. The oral exam at the end of the two months is a joke its pretty easy because u really do get to see a majority of the cases he will ask u about.

Study time...well NICU u round around 1030 then u are off until 2 where u will get a lecture. PICU round at 830 or so then u can study in the back room depending on the number of cases. OUTPATIENT U WILL BE BUSY i use to see at least 30 patients a day. If u are planning on studying u cant then.

the key to dr k in nicu is ask questions!!!! never run out of a question to ask...... keep asking..... no matter if you already know the answer. if you dont continue to ask questions during rounding he will assume you know everything and GO TO TOWN ON YOU!

my 2 cents. ive seen him torture people in the past. however, once you get to know him and get past the intimidation...... he is a really nice guy. i liked his rotation a lot.

Scott,

You should clarify, Dr. K in the NICU at Providence. St. John's is a different story. The commute from Southfield is pretty crumby IMO.

I agree with Scott here. Dr. K is one of my favorite attendings. If you are interested in what's going on and ask questions, it will be a great experience.
