View Full Version : NY Hoax? IAU still misinforming new student?

I am a currently a M2/M3 (taking Step 1 July 12) at IAU. It was brought to my attention by numerous students today, that the new dean of IAU informed them of the "current" situation. It seems NY has pretty much told IAU to reapply in 5 year's for approval because the school is still "new". The September visit is still supposed to to take place but will probably lead to the official rejection. Now this being the case, the school is still telling pending admission's that NY approval will come in September and not worry about it.

If I was a prospective student to this school I would first do the following:
1) Play a game of "nonsense" with the school and see who wins
2) Run away from this school as quickly and as fast as possible!

Is this information really a surprise considering AUA won't take IAU credit's because of the "rejection" from NY last year (ask iaustudent06). I mean the tell tale signs of what has really been going on at the school have been written, scratch that, ETCHED into the valuemd pages for about a good year now. Scroll through the archives and you will see how many times administration has talked about getting NY soon etc etc.

With all due respect though, from what I have heard about the new dean from SUNY is that he is trying to turn the school around and is a caring individual trying to do his best in an uncomfortable situation. However the lack of effort of the entire school to communicate CRUCIAL information to students has been mind boggling.

I have said it before and will say it again as soon as my step 1 score is in, I will be leaving this school. I know iaustudent06 has been having problems with transferring but I also that one of his problems was that he was missing organic chem as a prereq. Granted his step1 score should have more then made up for that but in some school's minds that is a mute point.

--------I understand that everything I have said is coming from people still on the island. If you know anything about how the game of telephone is played you understand that words can become jumbled and twisted. I am merely starting the thread and WOULD LOVE TO HERE STUDENTS CURRENTLY ON THE ISLAND open there mouths for once by posting on here instead of cursing up a storm about the school in silence.------

Now that I've wasted 15 minutes writing this even though the school won't respond till say September, I bid you adieu.

PS...If I am wrong I WOULD LOVE TO EAT MY WORDS.

I have heard many schools are not taking IAU credit even the ones that used to. The main reason given is that IAU is not a good school and is not NY accredited. AUA although quite new like IAU even they wont give a spot to IAU students, Ross, St George, Saba, St Matthews, Hope medical amongst many you can kiss all those good bye too, they wont take the credit any more.

I hope IAU realises what has been done and rectify this asap not just for us students but for the reputation of the institution in society.

It's more than a mute point, it's a major issue with many states concerning full licensure. This should have been addressed prior to admissions.

Well Rspr41, if you are wrong, you can use a Handkrchief to soak it all up. In all honesty and fairness to what has been written above is TRUE. IAU, from the day I FAILED to commit my time/money/life to a different Medical school has been a bigger comedy success that Martin Laurence. From the owner, to his son, to all the family members that run the school-both from behind the scenes to those who are in front of you with there fake smiles and lack of compassion-TRUELY NOT ENOUGH can be said to further exasperate what the above fellows have stated already.

so many questions have been asked, so many answers have been generated, yet NO RESULTS have come forth. Years have passed and IAU sits on top of the third floor of a town building, with no real infrastructure to show for themselves, besides there website (which, too, is filled with errors and misconceptions-faculty that TAUGHT (not presently teachers) or who has had a phone call to other teachers is somehow now "adjunct teacher". Or BEST of all, a Dean that has NO CLUE of what's going on and is kept QUIET/TOLD TO FURTHER MISLEAD students with information pertaining to what is supposedly there "future". It's so sad to see all of this occurring-from what was once "inspiration" left to rot into all that you see others keep venting about...

The worst part, is that IAU Officials are saying nothing...NOTHING...

thanks for ruining what i have spent time, money, and rendering so much ambition on what 'could have been'.

I understand the anger of some students, trust me. Keep in mind the TOS (http://www.valuemd.com/disclaimer.php) before posting which includes slander, profanity, flaming, having multiple accounts, etc.

IMO, try to back up your posts with verifiable data (links to sites, old posts, actually and specific events/experiences).

Texas now specially inquires on one of their mandatory forms for students who went to schools not on the approved list about the selection process which includes pre-reqs. I attached Form Z1. It does not list all the courses, but if you call the office (512) 305-7010, they can verify that is it basically whatever the "national standard" is, during the time of the applicants education.

NY apparently requires that those "common" (2 semesters of bio, chem, o chem, 1 year of physics, math, etc) pre-reqs to be mandatory as part of their accreditation, you can ask Walter Ramos at the NY medical board, (Executive Secretary). Email: medbd@mail.nysed.gov, Phone: 518-474-3817.

IAUstudent06, you ought to start your own website/forum, with all the info you have on this school, as well as the many others and the information that pertains to different topics. thanks for the info

I know this school because I know of the only graduate/resident/ceo's son back from Texas when the school opened up and I was "misinformed" about Texas licensure, in that all I had to do was pass my boards to be licensed.

I know a little about state licensure thanks to google-god.

IIt seems NY has pretty much told IAU to reapply in 5 year's for approval because the school is still "new".

AUA also opened up 5 years ago. AUA has NY approval, multiple greenbook clinicals, loans, a real campus, and numerous residents.

IAU (about 5 years old) is down to 3 hospitals when it listed around 10 at one time, (but I heard JPH in Chicago is closing also) and one resident (why is no one asking what happened to everyone else in the class?) But at least they managed to get medloans (which only covers the first 5 cheapest semesters.)

It always seems to me that when a school gave excuses about NY accreditation delay, like this one did for a long time, it's best to be cautious about the school.

St Mathews told me today their new rule is a maximum of 2 semesters will be given credit, so if you don't care about a school being banned in California, Texas, Indiana, Kansas, Oregan, North Dakota, Michigan, and Arkansas then you can apply as a transfer there.
