Why all the trouble with mosquitios inside the apartments? I'm thinking if you keep your doors and windows shut it will keep those critters out. Am I off-base or missing something

Not all houses in dominica are hermetically sealed. Especally gaps between doors. And mosquitos follow the CO2 gradient in to their host.
I've heard that half of the marks on my skin are from mosquitos, the rest might be caused by gnats.
Today I start wearing repellant to bed.

Should I be worried about malaria or other mosquito borne disease?

Guys, if the mossies are giving you a problem at night, take a trip into Roseau and buy a mosquito net at Astaphan's (Dominica's dept store) for $35 EC. You'll thank yourself, and it's a hell of a lot more safe and effective than wearing repellent every night.
By the way, there's no malaria on the island but there's a theoretical risk of dengue fever. Plus those things are damn annoying.

I am so there.
If you are in Roseau tomorrow
and you see a mosquito net and me,
you best not get in the way or I'll run you over.

the best way to avoid mosquitoes is to use bug repellent. No there is no malaria on this island although dengue fever is a possible concern.

I'm goint to come with a few bottles of the 100% DEET...(DEET is the most effective stuff agains mosquitos..don't use any of that magnet/electric wristband crap..it just doesn't work)
Also definetly going to by me a nice mosquito net that hangs on 1 string above your bed.
any other ideas?

Burn a candle. It'll give off carbon dioxide also. Confuse them with multiple targets.
They have itty bitty brains you know. The average Ross student should be able to outwit a mosquito, right?

There are two problems with 100% DEET (I have used it in the past as REI brand Jungle Juice). It will melt any plastic or acrylics you touch with it (it ate through a plastic watch wristband I used to have, leaving stains on my skin) and if you use it every day for a year, you're probably going to give yourself skin cancer. It's amazing stuff, and is the only bug repellent I'd ever recommend, but please don't use it every day- save it for special occasions.
