So, the school decided to do some faculty housecleaning over the weekend. I agree that not everyone can teach, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be given a chance to prove they can. The Histology teacher for MD1 was removed today and not even given a chance to finish out the semester. There was no formal feedback from ALL and i repeat ALL of the students to critique the teacher's performance. In any normal business people are given at least warnings before they are put out on the curb. The teacher is a respected pathologist with years of experience and not to mention access to real labs. The quality of the histology lab currently at the school is laughable and anyone without the foresight to see that the teacher had more connections to real labs is blind. I realize the school is going through changes, but there are positive and negative changes.

Have they already gotten a new histo teacher to replace this one?

They did get a new histo teacher who, by their educational background, seems to show promise. The point was that how the school handled the removal of the old histo teacher seemed unfair. Now maybe in the contract the teacher signed was some clause that stated they are only interim and could be removed at anytime, but i'm not sure. If this is the case then the outcome would be less shocking, but in the eyes of the students this is not the case.

I am higher up in the totem pole than you kid and know alot more than you about the school. Plus I have more subject knowledge than you in terms of medicine. So tell me something new. Your are just a freshie trying to find his way on a carribbean island. Learn more courses than we could have a conversation. Until than stick to your damn histo, learn the material and stop whining. Your here because you couldn't get into a main land medical school just like me. Finish your courses, get your damn permit to write step 1 and move on with it.
Nothing worse than MD 1 whiners than don't know anything and suddenly try to act all high and mighty.

If you know sooo much about the school then why didn't you run for an SGA position and try to fix things?? Just because you and I didn't get into a US medical school doesn't mean you have to become complacent and settle for just anything.. Congratulations you have more subject knowledge in medicine than me hopefully your not one of those students here that cheats their way through material and can actually pass step 1. I don't act all high and mighty.. I just care where my money goes and where this school will take me down the road. If it's an anything goes policy here, I can't imagine what happens off the island.

you care about where your money goes? it goes towards running a Caribbean medical school son. don't waste time with SGA events as your not going to gather any support. I will share some wonderful insight with you. Other's have come before yourself with wonderful SGA aspirations and nothing gets done at the end of the day.
So what do you offer besides whining on valuemd and stupid SGA meetings with alot of lip service? Do you have big connections the school can use? Otherwise you don't represent anything except a title. So take it to your head and act all SGA this semester and learn the hard way kid.
My advice to you, focus on your studies and get the hell out of this island and write your step 1. SGA means squat at this place.

I know where it goes, but there is a right and wrong way to run a medical school, which is my whole point. The students are the main clients of this business and without them it will fail. It's time people start realizing this and taking action, or you deserve what you get.
Even if SGA doesn't get anything done at least its something.. having multiple positions on the ballot being unopposed shows nobody cares and people deserve what they get.
With all this knowledge of yours about this school why don't you just transfer? There are other similar schools that will to take your money and if your close to clinicals, may even actually have greenbook rotations.

I think it is good to see that people care enough to be involved.

who cares about the SGA? I certainly don't. all they do at meetings is point to problems and flap their gums for 45 minutes. The SGA positions were merely a tool to pad up their resume for residency applications down the road. The SGA has done nothing except spend our money on subway sandwiches at the lunch meetings.
The current SGA made wonderful speeches at the start of the semester like the presidential nominees and now towards the end of the term. What got done? Nothing except rehashing the same complaints over and over.
Goodbye to another failed semester of SGA promises. Cant wait to see the new group in september make the same ** speeches and get nothing done.
