Hi I am an American high schooler and have been looking in all of hungary's medical schools. I particularly like Pecs. I am concerned about applying though. I am in the top of my class with a 3.8GPA, taking rigourus classes including AP Biology, Chemistry, English, and Phycology, and have a 31 on the ACT. Is this enough to do well on the entreance exams or should i dedicate a year of undergraduate to get more college level science work. This has been a dream of mine to live and study medicine in hungary. Any comments will help. Thanks!!!!

If any current or past student has gone strait from high school to a 6 year program please I would love to hear from you :D

If you do well on the entrance you will get in. But keep in mind that, medical schools in Hungary are not easy, unlike others in Romania.. or elsewhere. So , you will have to work hard, learn to sit and study etc.... its manageable, lots of students do it and have done it. At the same time, there are many others, who didn't do it cause they weren't dedicated enouf.
Bottom line, if you decide to come... come with an aim to work and study hard...

You , might want to check out the place personally before you commit for all the 6 years. Its the best thing to do.

Good luck

Thanks I apprichiate the advice. I am a very dedicated student and have good study skills and time management skills ( I play 3 varsity sports and have a part time job) so whatever medical program I get into I will dedicate everything I have to it. Towards the end of my senior year I will definately take a trip with my Mom to visit my top schools. Would it really be worth it to apply to one of the Romanian schools? You said they are easier, but they are not CA approved and I really would like the option of going back to the US to practice. Thanks again!!

Again, if there are any past/current students that made the transition from high school to a general medicine programe i would love to hear about your experiences ( how hard is the entrance exam, did you use an agent, do you like the atmosphere of the town, exc.)

No, I would never recommend anyone to apply to Romanian schools. They are not CA approved. I was , only saying, that they are easier, and cheaper. I know, many students who failed out from Debrecen , and went to Romania. I would never recommend anyone to do it.
If you , are hard working, then you should be fine.
Yes, nothing better than checking out your top choices.

Good luck
:D

If your question is Which one is the best medical school in Hungary .... the answers is , all the programs are quite similar in their teaching. You would want to select on the basis of the city and the environment you prefer to live in .

you should seriously reconsider coming to Hungary. why not pursue a US medical school instead? you're still very young and seem to be very determined to be a physician.

FMG = Foreign medical graduate

How so are you limited as a img compared to graduating in the US?

Cause , when you apply for residencies the program directors prefer US MDs> DOs >US IMG > FMG ( non US citizens).
So , if you want to get into fields other than Internal Med, or Family medicine, then ... it will be harder for you compared to the US graduates. Besides as an IMG you will have to try and get US clinical exp, so that you can get some good LORs(letter of recommendations) etc.
Not to mention, you will have to score higher on the steps than the US med students

That is why ... try to get into a US school first ..... and .. if and only if you can't get in there, and still dream of becoming a physician , then ... you can think of alternative ideas.

I think , for the purposes of matching, and landing into a good residency spot, Carribean schools ( the top 4) will be better than schools elsewhere, since.. you get 2 years of US clinical exp as a student of these schools. If , Carribean schools is nto an option for you , than , you can think of going to UK/Ireland/Australia.... and then in the end think of Central European schools.

I hope that helps and answers your questions...!!!

But again depending on whether you want to go to a more established school in UK/Ireland/Australia ... or if you want more USMLE style teaching and USCE ... u can choose Carribeans...

But all this .. should be only after you don't/ can't enter a US med school
