I went through the clinical fair today at school, and didn't see any new California sites. But I saw a paper taped to the wall of all the hospitals at the fair and it listed a Kaiser Permanente in La Mirada, CA?
I was wondering if anyone actually talk to their reps and what rotations are available!
I'll try to find more information on my own and post it on this thread.

I think MEAS are the best people to ask.
I do no think it is a good thing to list any possible new sites on here, until they are offical....you do not want anything to happen to them before they are official

it used to be a site for electives but according to OCSA, it has been dormant for some time and the sign was placed out there erroneously

There is a new psych site in CA. I talked to that guy today. Can't remember the name of the place, but it was between Orange County and LA.

You're talking about Norwalk, That's been there for a couple of years. I was hoping AUC would replace the Oakland site they lost a few years back.
I just checked the hospital list in the rotunda to double check, and indeed there is a "Kaiser Permenante LA from La Mirada, CA" listed. I'll try to talk to an MEAS or some AUC higher ups for a better confirmation.
I googled around looking for the hospital, the closest thing I came to was that La Mirada is in or around Los Angeles county, hence the name of the hospital, and on the job search for the KP website indicated jobs at an LA KP.
there use the be a site in Pomona for FP but that's long gone as well

I never said I didn't believe you, but I didn't want my pipe dream to die with a post on a message board either.
One rotation in psych at Norwalk, and full rotations in the armpit of California is a crappy situation and really blows. La Mirada would be an absolutely dream spot for me to do my rotations at, so don't get so butt hurt If I wanted to find out for myself.
and Kemper was right all long about the situation, as it was an error on the flyer. So I wouldn't mind this thread being closed for that reason, This thread doesn't have to throw false hope out there for other kids and be a dreamcrusher like it did for me.

la mirada was not a complete core schedule.....not even close.
right now, i'd be more than happy to be in the "armpit" of california. or a lot of other states for that matter.....as long as there's reliable utilities, fast internet, costco and real grocery stores =)

BTW, Oakland isn't a cake walk to be in. East Oakland is similar to downtown Detroit, St. Louis and any other innercity with serious gang problems.
I did my paramedic ER at that county hospital. It's gone through some seriously needed esthetic changes, but I can promise you, it's still a very rough neighborhood.
Plus the commute is horrible depending on which side of the tunnel you're on, rent, gas, food, etc.
No, the bay area is not a good place to be just for 1 elective rotation.

Edit: yes, it was Norwalk, you're right. The guy told me it was new. Oh well.

back in the day.... norwalk was the answer to starting clinicals in the states without a pass on step 1.And I thought England was the only place one could do that "back in the day". Learn something new everyday.
It would be great to have more California sites, that is for sure.
