If you were not aware, AUC just signed a contract with Nassau Hospital in Long Island, NY. Starting in September, they will have between 60-70 spots (possibly adding more eventually), and offer all of the cores, as well as many electives. I had lunch with many of the department heads today, and they were very friendly and seemed very eager to have us start there. I think this is gonna be a very popular spot for AUC students. Looks like YT is coming through on his promise to get us more (and better) clinical rotations.

Oh...and they also made it a point to stress that they will have very good student to resident ratios with lots of teaching (no more than 1:2), and specifically mentioned that this would be in contrast to another popular NY AUC hospital.

one thing at a time...a new hospital with all the cores, plus more spots at two existing hospitals, would be a bit much for AUC to do all at once

Do not misinform people LMX1B. At our 5th semester meeting we were told that the hospital HAS NOT signed the contract yet. While they are very likely to, they have not actually put a signature on the line and it was stressed several times.

Was that today? Because the hospital people said today that it was signed Friday. They didn't seem like the type to lie. Also, I don't know why they would bring all those department heads to the island and get everyone excited if they hadn't actually signed, or it wasn't a sure thing.

Specifically, when I lead their tour and they told me where they were from, I asked why the student body hadn't heard yet, since they'd likely be very excited about this. They said it was probably because they just signed Friday.

They are ACGME in 15 specialties. Nice.

Something tells me AUC's millions will help them with their 240million dollar renovation...lol

Took a break for studying and did a little legwork.

It is a big DO-friendly allopathic hospital that was in financial distress up until 2006-ish. Looks like their association with the LIJ network has stabilized them a bit and with AUC's money, they can continue to grow.

But all that matters is that they are ACGME accredited and offer all of the cores. Well, at least for those interested in US cores.

Well not sure then, because they definitely said deal was done on Friday. Maybe they finalized the terms, but still need to sign? Either way, despite my usual skepticism, I wouldn't be worried about it.

Oh, and if it makes you feel any better about them, they confirmed your opinion of the best steak house.

Nassau medical center is in East Meadow NY which is a good town but and i do mean but the only places to find housing that is close are in some pretty rough neighborhoods like Hempstead, Uniondale, Westbury, Roosevelt. If you take the cores their I would look to moving into Franklyn Square or Elmont. Elmont is O.K being that I lived their during High School. Franklyn Square is neat and pretty cheap. The shopping at Roosevelt Field Mall is very good and you could just about eat any where in the area as the food is really good. Word to the wise the more a hole in the wall the better the food. During the A.M. you'll fight traffic with Hofstra University and Nassau Community college students and around noon in the Fall its the media and the NY jets as their camp is at Hofstra. If you live in Elmont try Primevera pizza and stay off of Hendrickson Avenue by a park ( Drug Zone ). The best way to and from the hospital is Hempstead turnpike and you can even use public transportation to get to the hospital (N71, N72, N70). Gang Violence is on a high in Long Island as many of my close friends and people I know have been passing away. The best barber shop is in Elmont which is Scisorhands International on School Rd. Regular clubs and Strip clubs are in Hempstead but stay off of Terrace Avenue. If you get lost on this street you will know as it would look like a scene out of a music video with every body selling drugs and hookers on the stroll. Cops are real nasty and have very itchy trigger fingers no matter what color you are so don't piss them off at all. NASSAU COUNTY MAKES ITS OWN LAWS AS IT GOES ALONG!!!!!! It is possible to get a DWI while riding a peddle bike. lmao. ANYTHING THAT SAYS HEMPSTEAD IS A NO NO UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO USE A WEAPON!!!! NO MATTER HOW CHEAP THE APARTMENT GO SEE IT FIRST. Nassau county is just as bad as the city the Long Island people talk about is Suffolk county. and every thing east of Westbury. The hospital is great but if you are in the ER you'll get a lot of inmates from Nassau county jail which is walking distance from the hospital. Eisenhower Park has great jogging trails and Belmont which is in Elmont has some great gambling. Loads of dinners in L.I. and you have to goto Raxx if you like to play Pool. Bolder Creek is and Experience as they have great food and you cold always got sizzler where the girls like to give salad bar for free. All n all I love L.I. and it is a great place but its like L.A. how a neighborhood looks good but its not good.

apartment complexes are rare but some are located out by the source mall but are expensive (1400 for a one bed room). Get a penny saver magazine as the tend to have some of the best apartments mainly in Element/Franklyn Square. As you enter Long Island heading east on NY-27(Hempstead tpk) you pass in order Elmont, Franklyn Square, West Hempstead, Hempstead, Uniondale, East Meadow. north of Elmont is Floral Park. north of Franklyn Square is New Hyde Park. north of West hempstead is Garden City (nice mil $ houses). West Hempstead is hit or miss as far as apartments but generally good but stay out of hempstead its self two different towns. White Castle is on Hempstead tpk along with IHOP, Taco Bell, two Wendy's and McDonald's. Best of all if you like to eat look up the zagats ratings and you'll find some good restaurants. use 11003 (Elmont) as a zip to search. You'll enjoy your self while your in L.I. and those who choose to Good Luck.

Is this site still under negotiation or had the contract been signed?

The guy in charge of the program, from Nassau, told me that the contract was signed last Friday. The clinical dean was at the SGA meeting and he said it was done (he also said that they would not announce any specific deals with hospitals until they were either signed or certain they would be signed). Other than whatever BiologyBY heard, which could have just been from the speaker not having the most current information, I have heard nothing to the contrary.

While there haven't been an official confirmation of the signing, at appears they are on board with us
