J1 waiver - Opinion from seniors and recent graduates would be much appreciated.

I have read some old threads on J1 waiver and learned that it was really hard to get one even if you are willing to go and practice in a rural region. Those threads were from 2003. I was wondering hows the situation now for people willing to go and serve the rural areas and success in obtaining a J1 waiver. Word from recent graduates would be greatly appreciated.:)
