Does anyone have a good list of important Cluster Designations to know. I can't seem to find a one. Thanx.

CD3,4,5,8,19,20,23,10,TdT,B7,80,86,40,41,38,138,79 a,Throw in PAX5 and TRAP as well. That's off of top of my head I would consider most important.

Well, 3,4,8 are basic T cell markers. CD56 and 16 are for NK cells. CD5 important in differentiating CLL as it is a T cell marker present on B cell. CD 19,20,23 are B cell markers often used in flow cytometry. TdT is a marker of precursor B or T cell leukemia. CD10 is a marker of immature B cell. B7akaCD80 binds CD28 and is important in priming T cell and consequentially in tumor therapies. CD80 (B7)/86 T cell activation. CD40 of APCs binds CD40L of T cell activating them. CD41 is IIb/IIIa complex. CD38 and 138 in multiple myeloma plus 38+ and ZAP70+ B cells have grim prognosis for CLL while negative give about 25year survival. 79a is marker of lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma which is a common cause of waldenstrom's hyperIgM. PAX5 and TRAP are markers of hairy cell leukemia.

Thank you. What a great answer. What about CD1 and CD21?

CD1 action is yet to be determined by it is found on APCs and serve as lipid antigen presentors to T cells. Also, CD21 binds C3d in complement system and B cells have receptors for it. This same receptor for CD21 is the one EBV binds to. By the way I've edited something on CD80/86 there, not B but T cell activation. Also, CD23 I forgot to mention is a low affinity IgE receptor on B cell (Fc epsilon RII).

Thank you...it does....I thought CD1 had something to do with langerhans cells?

Recall your professional APCs: macrophages, Langerhan's cells which are almost synonymous with dendritic cells, interdigitating dendritic cells, microglia, Kupffer cells

So yes, you are correct in saying CD1 associates with Langerhan cells :)

CD40L (ligand), or CD 154, is important I thought in class switching. Those deficient in CD40L cannot class switch, so all the IgM cannot go onto becoming IgG, IgA, IgE. Antibodies start out as IgM, but eventually differenciate. Correct?

Absolutely right....It induces class switching via CD40 on B cell and thanks Kemper:)
