Hey guys. We were asked by some counselor to provide suggestions for flying through Barbados so I'm posting them here for everybody else. Feel free to correct anything as things continue to change...

Recommendations for flying through Barbados as per recently graduated students:

1. Verify luggage weight restrictions on your connecting flight from Barbados to Grenada because often times the restrictions will vary and you might have to pay additional fees or your luggage may not arrive in Grenada when you do.

2. You have to deplane in Barbados and go through customs/security. Be prepared that the customs process may take over 30 minutes. Also you will need a valid passport as well as your connecting flight ticket and return flight ticket to the US. If you do not have a return US ticket, you might be required to purchase one.

3. Your bags will not be automatically transferred to your connecting flight regardless of the airline or what the customs official says. There is no ground crew to transfer luggage.

4. Claim your luggage and recheck-in for your connecting flight. Please note the check in process will also take time and requires processing through security again. Allocate yourself at least 60 minutes. Also note if there is an issue with the weight of your luggage be prepared to make a payment, US cash preferred.

5. The Barbados airport is small and not very technologically advanced as such most flight announcements over the intercom are inaudible so be alert or pay attention to airport employees making the announcements without the aid of a speaker system.

6. There are porters that can assist you with your luggage since customs and check-in is far from where you actually arrive. Make sure you negotiate a price before you hire one since they are not official airport employees.

7. Do not bring animals through Barbados. They require a separate set of paper work for the country of Barbados and if it is not complete your animal will be denied entry for transfer to connecting flight.

8. Most airport shops accept US currency but provide change in local currency which differs from Grenadian currency. Bring and use small bills and know the exchange rate.
