tver or M2 or ryazan for orthopedics PG

can plz ayone suggest me abt which of these 3 unis to choose for doing MS orthopedics {post graduation} .
i m a MBBS doctor from india .
my top preference will be that where i ll get to do a lot of good clinical work say operations etc .

First decide whether to go for English medium or for the Russian. Since you are from India, no doubt you must have completed your studies in English. Remember all Russian universities don't offer English postgraduate programs and probably one or two has English to offer.

I guess Kazan is non-english medium. There is a possibility that Ryazan can offer post graduate in English only as per my information.

if you want to go for ortho/traumatology.. as they call it in Russia..
just go to PFU.. best place for it.. you have famous profs there.. and noone will be snobby to you. You want people to give you stuff to do as a foreigner in Russia... MMA wont give you that opportunity.. PFU will..but the only thing that you need to do first is learn russian.. and most importantly how to write it .. cause if you cant write russian.. noone will want to mentor you.
the 'hidden deal' in russian PG programs is that you must slave for a prof/some doc there.. youll have to be his secretary.. write all his histories.. and do all the pre/post op care.. then.. with time.. he may start teaching you something.
avoid places that are out of moscow.. trust me on that..if you want to know why..here is the reason:
Moscow is the largest city with lots lots lots of sick people... if you decided to do your PG in ortho/trauma..trust me you ll get TONs of experience, especially during night shifts..and the staff is well educated with new technology..
provincial schools.. have provincial teachers.. less patients..and they ll make you do the scut work.. no real work.

I guess Moscow costs twice than any other cities. Right? What about the security of PFU? I heard boys and girls in many unis live together. Is it true? I guess thats gonna be much of culture schock to me then. What about apartments? Are they safer? And the cost? Is Moscow safer than other cities?

It all depends on how much you are willing and able to afford...
the dormitories are definitely the safest and most practical way to live at PFU...
the buildings are guarded 24/7 which is safe..and you will not feel lonely as you can make friends with people in the dorm or study with your classmates...the dorms are filled of people of different nationalities and russians included..

MMA... separates foreigners to russians...

Lately PFU has built some NEW dorms and seem to be in an appartment-like design...very nice..but you may have to bribe your way in there..

There are however drawbacks
Lack of Privacy
Having to share bathroom and shower room with your roommates or even having to share them with the whole floor depending on which dorm you ll be living.
You ll also have to share the kitchen..but that does not seem to be a problem..

If you are willing to pay the extra money you could get a Newer dorm... but then again.. you ll have to find the right person to guide you..and you ll also have to watch out from those seniors.. mostly indians/sri lankans..no offense here.. who will 'offer you their help' (and lies) for money.. my advice: AVOID those people that offer help to go negociate with the person in charge..and all the bla bla bla.. they ll try to make money out of you.. and you will not get what you need..

The appartment idea would not be a good idea if you are new to Russia.. you ll have to go through some type of real estate agent that will show you some appartments..and rip you off by the same way...but the problem is that most landlords will keep raising your rent every time they ll need money...especially during winter...They can evict you anytime they please..and the prices are outrageously high.. I heard that a one bedroom that was built in the 50s..looking like a sewage would cost near the $1000/month at least... which is reasonable for moscow..
if you are a colored person living alone.. then you should not venture in an appartment.. the cops will come all the time to cause you some problems.. the neighbors wont be too friendly...
and easily targeted..

I lived in an appartment myself...as I had a full social life and was in contact with lots of russians.. if you are new.. settle for a dormitory...I had conflicts with neighbors getting drunk and sleeping in my front door.. i could hear him snore!! ..

the boys and girls living together story is officially untrue.. but many guys try to find ways to lie or pay their way to the person in charge of dormitory.. so that they can live with their gf or bf....

you wont be appointed to live with a girl.. no problem with that...
you ll most likely have a russian roommate and if you get a bigger room you ll also have someone from the same country of yours...
but you ll automatically have a russian.. that s PFU policy.. so that you can learn Russian and they can learn about a new culture.. sometimes it works..and some times they find ways not to live together..

MMA makes sure that foreign students and Russian students do no mix and live in 2 different worlds..

I would advise to stick with a dorm to start with.. you ll have enough adjustments to go through in your first 6 months and wont need to the extra burden of an appartment...

as for whether Moscow is a safer or more dangerous city.. it would be hard to answer..
But here are my impressions..
Moscow is a large city..and the PFU campus is located in a pretty nice neighborhood of moscow..your first3 years or med school will be on campus.. where there are mainly PFU students.. campus police...I have never heard of dangerous events occurring on campus..
MMA sends students running around Moscow with subway commutes of over 1 hour for all different classes.. tiring.. cold.. not really convenient.. useless waste of time..and in the winter when it gets dark early.. it can get dangerous..

being in Moscow.. you will not stand out as much as you would in a smaller town and therefore an easier target..

St Petersburg students.. at least those that I had met... seemed to love coming to PFU (ALL of them were ex PFU students that got kicked out) and felt that they could spread their wings in Moscow..
I was told that they did not dare taking the subway.. always travelled by taxi.. did not venture outside unnecessarily.. and a student got killed right in front of their dorm... that could not happen at PFU.. for the way the campus is built..

I am not aware of smaller provincial schools..but from what I can deduce.. I would say that provincial towns are more economically challenged with poorer people...therefore the few colored foreign students tend to become an easier target..
