Safety is relative. Mattingley Heights is close to school and the apartments there are well constructed. When the hurricanes hit, they will be VERY safe. As far as crime is concerned, you would be safer there than in most neighborhoods in the United States. I would not, however, suggest that you walk home alone from school after dark...but then again, there aren't many places here or in the United States where I WOULD recommend that you walk alone after dark. I do not believe that there has been any crime in the Mattingley Heights area in the last three years although there have been one or two incidents in adjacent areas.

I think that the area is safe. Otherwise, we would not recommend it and neither would the Veterinary School which also has students living there.

Thank you so much, it really helps.

:shock::shock::shock:

When the "hurricanes hit"?!?!?!!?

Umm I may be reading to much into it but your statement seemed sort of casual like hurricanes hit on a regular. How regular?:shock:

:oops: I guess that I m a little causal about hurricanes but that doesn't mean that they occur frequently. So far, I've lived with the earthquakes of California and the tornados of the midwest and the hurricanes of the Caribbean. I've gotten used to the fact that something is always out there that could hurt me and I've gotten use to it. Personally, I'll take the hurricanes. I know what time of year they are likely to occur (June through November, peaking in late August and early September) and I know several days ahead of time whether they are likely to hit my island.

Kittitians consider themselves "blessed". They do not get hit by hurricanes very often. Most hurricanes head north before they get to the island or pass by south of the island and then start heading north. In the three-plus years that I have been here, we have had neither a tropical storm nor a hurricane. They do not happen often but there have been some major ones that did hit the island...Lenny and Georges come to mind.

At orientation, we do a thorough presentation on hurricanes and tell you how to prepare ahead of time. We also tell you where to go if a hurricane is predicted to hit the island and what to do afterwords. Throughout the hurricane season, we monitor the weather daily and can provide you with plenty of warning if there is inclement weather. Fortunately, the housing on this island is VERY well built and the chances of significant damage to your apartment is relatively small.

I'm sorry I made you think that hurricanes were a frequent occurrence. Heck, there not even an annual occurrence! Come on down! The weather's fine!

PS: If you're coming down here from snow country, you're probably in more danger from a wintertime car accident there than you are from a hurricane here!

Hi everyone,

I'm a current student at UMHS and was looking a female roommate for the September session. I just put down a deposit for a place in Camps. It's a 2 bedroom apartment (both bedrooms are pretty much the same size), and it's less than a 5 minute walk to campus. The apartment is in very good shape, is a VERY decent size, and includes a washer/dryer. Rent will be $450 per person.

If you are interested, please send me a mesg on valuemd as soon as possible so we can get in touch and discuss the details.

Thanks!

nor in that area... I've just come from visiting the island.... Near school is very difficult to find as the other students from the school, the vet students, and Windsor students have a lot of it already taken up.
