I was perusing SMUOnline.com and saw under the "Students" section that the request for Dean's Letter is supposed to be received by June 1st at the latest.

It was an old document from a few years ago, but I'm sure it still rings true.

Just wanted to remind my fellow students going for the match this year that we need to have the questionairre, personal statement, and CV sent in to them in 8 days!!

Tim, how about making this or something similar to it a sticky. I'm sure that next year when it's me going for the match I'd love to have this as a refresher.

When I get some time in the next few days I'll make a "Preparing for 2009 Match" sticky with dates, etc.

Do we have to mention which specialty we want to go into along with reasons why in the personal statement? what are they looking for in the personal statement?

i thought June 1 was the request date, not the date the information has to be at SMU

no. all 4 papers must be in by june 1.

it's only to reserve your place in line, so i'm hoping they won't make a big fuss about it if it arrives on june 2 if it's postmarked by june 1.

imagine if you have to miss the Match because your papers came in 1 day late...... that would suck!!

in any case, i'm sending a digital copy and a hard copy. I don't trust the postal service

The request should be made by June 1st, but submission of all necessary documents can stretch across the summer. As long as Dr. R has enough time to write the letter before Sept. 1st. According to Mrs. D in the clinical department, the deadline is flexible.

Call Mrs. D in the clinical department. Let her know who you are, and that you are planning to apply for the 2009 match. She'll send you the the e-mail with the rest of the required info.

the school shouldve sent a mass email about the match.
seems like they've failed to do that for the past few years.

all i know is that we send in the papers to the clinical dept.

nope!

the only emails i ever get are ones telling everyone to pay up!

the school is really really REALLY good about reminding you to pay money while threatening to withdraw you from school if you don't.
