At my university some professors had the lecture notes available at the beginning of the seminar and others the week before the lecture. I am used to printing about 4 slides per page and make written notes on the pages during the lecture.
When do we have access to the notes? If they are PPT can we download them before the lecture starts and go to notes page view and type notes for each slide or what do people do?

Accoring to my friends that just started in May you get a few dvds with all the power points and word documents that will be used in class for that semester on the first day or 2 of class...

How hard is it to get ahold of these notes, because I wouldn't mind doing some broad pre-studying (main concepts, not details-- just to set up a framework for my knowledge)

classes are constantly being restructred so the notes from a previous semester often are different from the ones you will have. I wouldnt waste your time studying before youget to the island anyhow. enjoy your freedom while it lasts. seriously. ENJOY YOUR FREEDOM.....

Amen to that!!! Besides, you don't know how to study for medical school yet. But you will, trust me. :D

Pre-studying really won't help. If you're really eager, though, I suppose you could just grab a copy of Netter's Atlas and just get an idea of what nerves, muscles, and blood vessels run there. But that is pretty much the extent of what you can do without studying stuff that will scare you...

there have been many previous posts from herbs that wanted to study early and every single time they've been told to not study early. it doesnt stop anyone from pre studying so its kind of a moot point to even advise on this issue

Only because everything people say completely contradicts all the theory on memory and learning. Google 'distributive practice' versus 'mass practice' and see what's more sucesful. I mean no disrespect to everyone who advises this, almost all of which are in, or have already completed, medical school. However, their argument usually runs along the line of 'don't pre study, trust me'. Or, 'medical school has absolutely nothing in common with an UG.' Well if it involves learning a huge amount of information, then i'll stick to what i've been taught for the last 4 years as opposed to a few students that take a different approach. I'm sure that a lot of poeple, if not most, didn't pre-study and did fine. However, unless you can go back in time and run another experimental condition on this, there is no way to know how you would have performed differently if you had pre-studied in an effective manner. I will agree with you guys in one thing: Pre-studying the way most people go about it will be very innefective. However, like i've stressed several times before, i CANNOT see how having an overview of everything could hurt me.
I hope you guys see where I'm coming from. Don't be offended by my lack of being convinced -- it's just I know what works for me and what doesn't. I've pre-studied before and have been very succesful in those courses. I'm assuming med school would be no different. At the absolute very least, there is no way that it could hurt me, so all that I would be out is a few hours of my life. Thanks for understanding (i think?). :)
