Is any one else kinda bothered about this. I understand why Dr. K would do this but having a open door policy are one of the reason why Dr. N such a great DOB.

this would make things more organized but being able to speak to Dr N at the spur of a moment was a great luxury. I will surely miss it.

this is a great sign he is a good dean. now the dean can concentrate on more important issues...i guess students need to go through the proper channels now.

Agreed. If it doesn't work out, they can go back to the "open door".

From having him the first time in Pharm 1, his style seems more about setting clear boundaries and following certain protocol. He seems to be about keeping order mostly.

I fail to see how posting office hours on his door constitutes taking away the open door policy. The open door policy does not mean "any time." The man probably has a lot of other things to do so he needs to limit the time he is available to students. I often study in the area outside his office and I see a constant stream of students knocking on his door. I have no idea how he would get anything else done if he didn't limit his office hours. As others have said, there are other, and sometimes more appropriate, channels to be used...like the dean of STUDENTS.

Gshneid, you seem to be one of the few students who post that thinks about things. It seems that a lot of people are so short-sighted on this board and like many in our class, are all about instant gratification and self-entitlement. The mere notion that an open door policy has been taken away and students have now been wronged in some way only reinforces that. I am waiting for the day when some of our peers realize that life, and particularly med school, is not about being spoon-fed and coddled. A little maturation would be a nice change of pace.

I'm glad the open door policy is gone, like other people have stated it lets him focus on more important things. You should see some of the people that visit him, only to kiss some butt, wasting his time. I think all of the prof's should have office hours. You go to school everyday, have all the faculty's e-mail, what could you possibly need to say to the DOBS that requires an open door? You need to talk about your day? How stressful life is? If you are on the border you need to shed a few tears? Give me a break, go see a shrink.

I can def see other things being more important than the welfare of students to the DOB

Exactly. That's why they appointed a Dean of Students.

There are some which still keep door open like Dr. S, but I guess the rest just follow the DOBS example
