Well, well. We've got new owners. Let's see if they're the men of action they claimed to be at the big student meeting yesterday.

Take the following USMLE-style quiz:

A young adult presents with headache, diaphoresis, anxiety, depression, anger, restlessness, diarrhea, and insomnia. The most likely source of these symptoms is:
(a) temporal arteritis
(b) pulmonary edema
(c) athlete's foot
(d) angst over the insult and humiliation of having to dress up like a little Catholic school kid and wear school advertising four days per week while spending thousands of dollars per semester in tuition and living expenses for the privilege of doing so

Answer (a) is not corect because temporal arteritis does not cause diarrhea, which is a good thing because those of us who have temporal arteritis from eating local food would not be able to deal with the lack of toilet paper in the school bathrooms. Answer (b) is not correct because pulmonary edema does not cause headache, although both conditions often accompany Pathology lectures. Answer (c) is not correct because athlete's foot -- a fungal infection which may cause some of the symptoms in the rare cases when it becomes systemic -- is not the best answer. The correct answer is (d), which is analogous to similar symptoms seen in fraternity hazing, during which pledges are subject to public humiliation in a test to see if they can "take it". It's sort of like taking the Anatomy final.

Well, we have taken it about as long as we can. Now that the former Chief Operating Officer -- whose chief operation was chiefly to promote the outrage of the school uniform -- is out of the picture, there is no longer any reason to continue abusing students with this practice, about which more hits have been made on posts on the subject in this forum than any other post, in any forum, on any topic, ever.

It is not enough to simply lower the cost of the shirts. That's not the point. We are not owners of the school and should not be required to promote it by wearing "eat at Joe's" style shirts. If we allow this affront to human dignity to go unchallenged, it's only a matter of time before we'll begin every class by singing the school anthem, "Hail to the Owners", and will have to have taps nailed to our shoe heels so they make a loud sound as we hug the walls and click our heels whenever a faculty member walks down the hall.

I call upon the new owners to declare an end to the uniform policy forthwith (that means 'right now', for those for whom English is a second language).

Make your wishes known with a continuous stream of emails to the new student coordinator, Lisa, who has posted her official school email address in an official school post, complete with school logo, at http://www.valuemd.com/xavier-university-school-medicine-aruba/156307-new-xusom-aruba-contact-information.html (tos does not permit me to give contact information for school officials in this post). Send one email per day until the uniform policy is abandoned. If 160 students do that, she'll get 480 emails per day -- and have 960 waiting for her Monday morning -- which should suffice to make our point. My emails begin today.

Here's our chance to stop whining and actually do something. I say we hound this administration unmercifully until the single most annoying feature of student life has been banished forever. I will call upon the newly elected SGA in a couple of weeks to apply for a bonfire permit, at which I will throw in my four school shirts, three of which I had to buy at the obscene price of $32 each.

They will never end this uniform policy. 1) they making money off them 2) they are making money off a poor quality shirt... The new owners nickel and dime everything. There here to make profit off the school. I wish we could put an end to this but i don't think its gonna happen anytime soon.

Were you at the big student meeting with them a couple of days ago? They said that if the uniform policy stayed, the shirts would be sold at cost. Do you doubt the word of these fine gentlemen?

Instead of complaining, how about heeding my call to arms and sending email to the address referenced in my original post, demanding that the uniform be abandoned? Send her email every day until they threaten you with disciplinary action for harrassment, then read my latest post, "zebras and lions".
