Just got my Term 2 book-list order form... I know in the first term we were required to buy a bunch of books that no-one ever looked at. Are there any particular books in Term 2 that are either must-have or that you can do without (to save $$$)? I know in particular there are 3 Immuno books that are optional.... I feel left out; haven't rec'd anything. Did they send the booklist to your mailbox, or do they e-mail it?

They send the list to your mailbox...

So far I guess I am just getting the "required" books... Hopefully I can put them to more use than first term's "required" books...

let me give some free advice on which books to purchase/not purchase:

Physiology:

Course notes are great. Only get the book if you like some extra explanation on material. Exams are on lecture material only.

neuroscience:

Our course notes sucked. I heard that they were re-written for this term. Anyways, the text is the MOST BORING read ever. Bought it. Never opened it ONCE. $90 paperweight. My advice, don't get it. Get a copy from the library if you really want to read it. Exams are on lecture material only. However, you need to get the lab manual

Immuno:

The course notes suck. But luckily, Dr. Stanley is the same Dr. Stanley who wrote to book--Clinical Immunology: An Introductory Text
. Just read the entire book cover to cover (don't worry, it's a small book--can probably fit in your lab coat pocket) and you'll be ok. This one you MUST get. Optional texts are just that, optional. If you need more info, just get a copy from reserve.

parasitology.

Another MUST get. This are your lecture notes/lab notes. Plus, you also get a sample exam in the back.

Genetics.

Course lecture notes were good. I never opened the book once. Don't really need it.

I dont feel any extra books are needed for immuno. However, I had a background in immuno so I'm a bit biased. I might be doing the immuno DES next term :D

dont but extra stuff; use the library; in fact use the term ahead of you to suggest what books not to waste your money on.

Just wanted to say, I totally agree with rk403's advice. Also as Steph said, forget the optional stuff. Trust me, you probably won't open it anyway.
