Hi everyone :)

Please, can people post up (scanned, photocopied, or linked, etc.) excerpts from SABA that writes how many times a student can decel or fail or etc before getting kicked out of the school -- basically all the academic regulations. I ran a search and there was a thread about it, but there weren't any scanned or photocopied excerpts about this matter from the school. So I was REALLY hoping that people wouldn't mind somehow sending me this information. My email is allie.84@hotmail.com if people wanted to send me this information using email.

PS: I am not a student so I can't access this information online, but I really need this information to decide which school is best for me to go to in the first place. So please help.

THANK-YOU SO MUCH. Please reply

um, i've got to ask: Are you not planning on doing well or something?

If that is the case, you should be aware that your med school marks aren't what you should be worrying about... It's USMLE's, etc.

Can decel as much as you want; may cause probs if you are loaning it and arent' carrying a full course load...something to consider.

Fail/withdraw from a course and you're on academic probation for 2 semesters. Fail while on probation, and you may be out or you'll have to talk to the promotions board...

Need to passes courses to write USMLE; Need to learn material to do well on USMLE.

Hi,

Thank-you all for your replies. Just wondering, where is all of this written down by Saba? I looked on their website through their handbook, but I can't find where all of this is written down. Can people please post (photocopy, or scanned, or linked, or etc) these academic regulations?

Thank-you very much

If you had looked at the document that KingMo linked, you'd have found the information you're looking for under Academic Policies, starting on page 13:

Promotions Committee Guidelines on Academic Progress in the Basic Science Program
The Promotion Committee, as directed in the SUOSM Catalogue, will review all students’ progress throughout their academic careers at SUOSM.

The Promotions Committee will recommend that all of the following students be placed on probation for two semesters:

1. Students admitted to SUSOM with advanced standing, i.e., transfer students. These students must maintain a 2.0 GPA or a grade percentage average of 75% or higher; if not, the Promotions Committee will recommend that the student be dismissed from SUSOM.

2. Students with a cumulative GPA of <2.0 of a grade percentage of <75%.
Note: If a student achieves an overall GPA of less than 2.0, or a grade percentage average of <75%, the student cannot progress from SUSOM Basic Science Program to clinical rotations.

3. Students who fail one course must repeat that course in the next semester.

Note: A student who has been placed on Academic Probation should not be permitted to register for an overload (i.e. more than 3 courses or Hyperbaric Medicine) during the time the student is on Academic Probation. The Promotions Committee will recommend that the student be placed on Academic Probation for two semesters after any failed course.

4. Students who withdraw from a course.

The Promotions Committee may recommend dismissal from SUSM for any of the following criteria:

1. Students who fail a course while on academic probation.
2. Students who withdraw from a course while on academic probation.
3. Students who fail two courses in a single semester.

remember this, if you fail twice in the same semester (ie. 2 courses), you will be kicked out.

I never knew about this until recently. Be warned.

Apparently someone doesn't want to do their our research, even after people are willing to help you after this ridiculous question. You want to be a doctor and you're concerned with how many courses you can fail before getting kicked out!?!?! I pray that you're not my doctor in the future! When I was researching schools this factor never even crossed my mind because I know I'm not going to fail. I wouldn't go and spend this much money thinking I might fail. Have some confidence in yourself or find another career path.

you might find a med school with unlimited fail rates, but that just means you'll be even more in debt after you fail the USMLE's. If you're starting to fail a course without a specific circumstance underlying it, then you're probably going to do even worse on the USMLE's. Remember, everyone writes the same exam at the end of the day.

The user's question has been answered by providing link to the SUSOM Student Handbook... no need to have this turn in to a flame war. Thread is being closed.
