I know the school recommends CMI insurance but is this the best option? Has anyone looked into insurance through other companies, banks, mastercard companies, etc.?
Please let me know what all you Canadians have done for health insurance.
Thank you!
There may not be a difference which country you're from concerning this issue. If so, and you're from another country, feel free to give your input

Sounds good, thanks!
I'm also from Ontario and this is something I found on a forum when I was researching Ireland med schools a while ago:

Q: Does anyone have any recommendations regarding obtaining medical travel insurance for Canadian students in Ireland? What is the cheapest option?
A: Are you from Ontario? If you go into an OHIP office you can get your Canadian medical insurance covered for the whole year you're away. But you need something pretty official from your school saying you're enrolled. That will cover you for the Canadian cost of any procedure. So if you need emergency brain surgery over in Ireland they'll pay their cost for that but you have to make up the difference with additional insurance or out of pocket.

This seems like an alright thing to do, but I would still like to know what else is out there that is a good deal and maybe a little safer than this out of country OHIP coverage.

If you are an Ontario resident, full time student and contact OHIP, you will be insured. I assume the OHIP coverage is sufficient to satisfy proof of "medical insurance"?
What we may be looking for is supplemental medical travel insurance similar to what you get for out of country travel to cover the difference from what OHIP covers and the actual fee? (Insurance for the insurance)
Can any current Canadian (Ontario) students please comment?

I was wondering if some current students could reply to this thread? SUSOM is ~50% Canadians and we all need insurance, so please let us know what you did. Did you just go with the company the school promotes, or did you find something better and cheaper? I have been researching this for a while and I'm not having too much luck. It's like buying any insurance or a car, you can't really trust any of them (sellers) at first glance.
Thanks!

Try TRAVEL CUTS... Reasonably priced and relatively good coverage. Downside is you must renew at after each semester.

Correction. You're not required to buy insurance. You're required to have insurance that will cover you for emergencies and medical care in Saba.
