To those students who just got there..did you have any problems with American Airlines if your bag is overweight, or if you brought an extra one that's over the 70lbs limit?
I am flying with my books..unfortunately, and I know I am gonna go over the 70lb limit. I am willing to pay extra, but do they let you do that or there is no exception to this rule?
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately they are VERY strict and will not let you pay for even an extra pound! The planes are relatively small and they cannot fill every seat without being over weight. There are always 2-4 seats open minimum. They have been known to bump people if there is too much weight on the plane as well.

i heard that the weight limit drops to 50lbs when you transfer over to liat? is this true and if so how strict are they? also, how many carry-ons will liat accept (backpack, laptop case, etc.)?

my dumb***** friend brought a 100 lbs in two bags and didn't have any problem. My stupid butt cut left my george foreman grill at home because I thought they were going to trip when I go over 70 lbs. So, the answer is no.

We flew with Liat and they were very strict! We were over on our weight and paid $60. Anything over 50lb upto 70 lbs (no more than 70 lb), you will have to pay the fine. Anything over 70 lbs either has to go on your ONE carry one or throw it out. They won't make an exception for you because of the legal issues with weight on the plane. The airline ended up taking a few luggage pieces out to accomodate the weight limit so some of us ended up not getting our luggage. PAck the most important things on your carry on. If you have a laptop, purchase a laptop backpack to carry everything. They won't let you take on more than one peice. Good luck. Get to the counter early. There are lots of people who don't know about the rules and hold up the lines.

I think it depends on who is working at the desk with Liat. When I left the island for good, I thought I was going to have to give up some of my stuff so I could meet the weight limit. I was like 80-90lbs per bag, and they just charged me $25 and I was on my way. But I think it has to do with how many people are going to be on the plane. I left a couple days after most people did, and I think that had something to do with it.
