View Full Version : Will Three "A"'s + Three "F"'s = Three "C"'s for the GPA

When I was in college 20 years ago I had some "F"'s. 20 years later and I am back in college, I now have straight "A"'s.

My question is, when they figure out the GPA does:

A,A,A + F,F,F = C,C,C

Does three A's and three F's average out to three C's

Thanks

Yup. An F= 0 I think. Look at it from a GPA perspective. Assuming your A is actually a 4.0, thats 4.0 +0 /2 = 2.0 which is a C

EDIT: Come to think of it, I'm not sure of Ross's policy on credits obtained from two different universities or time frames.

The stuff from 20 years ago is moot.
Admissions will look at what is recent, what you have done in the interim, your essay (include reason for career change) and MCAT.
Take it from a fellow accepted old guy that didn't have the best of grades way back when.

Make sure you point out the fact that it happened a long time ago and now you are on the straight and narrow... you'll be fine...

Not to rain on your parade but if you can't figure out how to average a set of numbers how are you going to make it through med school? I mean the Hardy Weinberg equation is gonna give you fits in genetics and that's first semester stuff.

No rain here callemurcia1, and I appreciate it if you keep your derogatory comments to yourself. Negativity does not have any use on these forums.

Everyone else thanks, and if the below is true it would be good news.

Just apply man.

20 years ago I was wearing parachute pants, a sequined glove, and thought for sure I would be a professional breakdancer on the streets of Hollis, Queens...

that was 20 years ago.

no one is going to hold those old grades against you - or even average them for that matter.

Don't worry over spilt milk from 20 years ago. That spilt milk has aged into Maytag Bleu cheese, so go grab some lettuce, dried cherries, a few walnuts - throw it in a ball and mix together. Find a nice pinot grigio, & saddle up to the computer and apply online ASAP

ah, I have reinvented the "lemons to lemonaid...."

good luck brother

Lol Calle I think the OP was asking how Ross averages Premedical GPAs (i.e. do they take the higher one or average the two out). Thomasfx, I'm assuming the Fs and As are the same classes that you took over. If that is the case, aim for an MCAT above 20. If you are worried about those Fs, take advance courses in those subjects and do well in them (this helps your GPA and prepares you for SM1). If you don't get offered a seat to RUSOM, you may be offered MERP. The interview will definitely bring this up so make sure you know how to answer this.

Thanks for the information. My excuse, I was young, immature and my only concern was finding the ladies, buying Polo shirts to go with my Members Only jacket while I was listening to Duran Duran on my cassette player.:D

I graduated from undergraduate with a 2.51 gpa (which included 6 F's) and graduated from Ross with a 3.37 and am now about to start residency on July 1st at my first choice in the match. I had a 2.51 because I left school and didnt withdraw (and the previous grades werent that good). I came back to school 4 years later and really tried (got A's and B's) and brought my gpa up to 2.51 which was enough to graduate. Ross took that into consideration and let me in. Like I said, I start residency on July 1st. Good luck, it never hurts to try.

Um...so if you update the "cassette player" to iPod, I am doing that EXACT same thing now. History is indeed cyclical.
