Well, I just finished my interview with Saba, so I want to share what it was like before I forget how it went.
I was surprised that my interview consisted of only two people; one male school dean who asked me questions first, and one female Saba staff member who tried to fill me in on information regarding the school and the island. The interview lasted 35 minutes.
Both had obviously taken the time to read my application and personal statement in detail, so I was glad I put forth my best effort on those documents.
The dean asked me:
1. Since you are on a very secure career track, what makes you want to take the risk of attending foreign medical school?
2. I see you have two bachelors and a Masters degree already. What caused you to want to pursue medicine?
3. We are always very glad when someone applies to Saba,
but why did you not apply to a U.S. school?
4. According to your transcript, I see you had particular trouble the spring semester of 19**. Can you explain this?
5. One of your letters of reference states, and I quote, "(ambivalent but honest statement here relating to academics)". Perhaps it is good for you to hear this. What is your reaction to that statement? (I really had to think fast but not freak out and panic here.)
6. Thank you for your honesty. Do you have any questions for me?
The staff member asked me:
1. What do your wife and family think about your desire to attend Saba? Is your wife happy about your choice?
2. I see you have traveled to ****, ****, and *******. Can you talk a little about that? Were those trips vacations?
3. Do you have any further questions?
They then gave me their phone number extensions in case I have any other questions, and said I'll hear from them in 7-10 days. I felt they were very kind and courteous, though they left no stone unturned on my transcript and application. I was a bit flustered at times, because they spent more time telling me what my application said for confirmation and telling me what Saba is like than asking me questions, which I did not expect. So I was chomping at the bit to sell myself a lot of the time. They did not ask about my not having taken the MCAT yet. I give myself maybe a 68% chance of getting in at this time, based on my own emotional feelings about the interview at this time. Cheers!

Not to worry anyone, but my interview was quite different than those previously described. Of course all the normal questions were asked, but there was no questioning of my academic record nor any questions to why I chose SABA. Additionally, there were three people on the other end of the phone, [two of which I talked to] and one of them was Dr. *********s himself.

That's why the interview suprised me, and so I posted to show the difference. I'm hoping that the differences can just be attributed to having different interviewers. I was interviewed by the academic dean, Dr. Berne, and Ms. Harty, the head of alumni services. Staff must have to rotate to get all the interviews done in a timely manner, I guess. Rolaids... where's my rolaids?

I too was interviewed back in December by Dr. Berne and Amy Harty, but my interview was very different than that posted here. I guess they are now starting to change it up a bit.
Doc :D
