Transportation to Airport

I know that the school sends someone to pick you up when you arrive, but what about when you need to get to the airport any other time and you have to try to hurdle your bags there...is there some type of taxi or other type of transportation available to the public? What do people usually do? Do people usually make a flight reservation from Statia or just purchase a ticket when they get there in the case of flying to other islands?

its my understanding that there are a few rental companies that offer cab services too, not 100% positive as i have never been there.

You can buy winair tickets online @ Fly-winair.com You'll have to pay the escape tax in person, though, I believe.

There are taxis on the island or you can just have a friend bring you. I live pretty close to the airport so I just walk it and usually someone offers me a ride when they see I have all my bags with me.

You are better off buying Winair tickets at the airport and not online because it is a lot cheaper than online.

So, how do most do when flying to and from the US to the island....do you buy a round-trip ticket to St. Maarten, then buy a ticket to St. Eus. or do you just buy round-trip ticket from airlines that let you imput St. Eustatius in their menu (if online) and already have WinAir on the route? I know this question is confusing,hopefully, someone understands.

You buy your round trip ticket to St. Maarten on whichever airline you want. Then you buy the tickets to Statia from Winair.

When you first come to Statia I would just book your WinAir ticket online. The weekend before classes start is always crazy at the St Maarten airport because of all the med students coming back at the same time. You'll be better off if you at least have a guaranteed ticket already as opposed to trying your luck the day you get there. The flights are usually packed and delayed.

How much do taxis generally run?

sorry dont know Wade or Bongo'd number but it costs 5guilders or 2 U.S. dollars to go anywhere on the island....pretty cheap.
