I am a clinical transfer student to USE.
I wanted to know is it possible to request certain sites for ACGME core rotations? For example, I am interested in rotating in Phoenix and/or Denver!
If any of you current clinical students have any advice or comments, please feel free to share them with me. I am currently in the process of completing all of the clinical forms and will be sending them to the school shortly.
Thanks :)

i just finished 1st term, so i am not 100% sure, but...
i think you can. the clinical guy said that you can set up your own rotations. if you can set it up, they just have to sign/approve it or whatever and you are good to go.

as you will soon find out if you want a rotation set it up your self and then get the clinical department involved. the more proactive you are the better of you'll be

my exp has been good where im at and my preceptor does all of my sch but some people go on their own with great succ in sch. I will say this though every horror i have seen has been due to waiting on n.y. to do it for you and not being VERY proactive. Those whom wait get left behind.

MDTOB,
I'm doing my clinical rotations also but unfortunately not in the locations that you have mentioned. Although I do know of 2 ppl (1 in Greeley, CO and the other in NV) so to answer your question yes it is possible to do ACGME rotations there.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with and good luck :)

So, are you doing all your core rotations or core and electives at the sam location? If you don't mind, where are you doing them?

I'm almost done with my core rotations... in Chicago, IL. All cores and electives are available here, but usually you have to do them at different hospitals based on availability.

What hospitals are you at because I wanted to do all of my clinicals in Chicago. Are you considering doing your residency there as well? How did you get in there. Did you find it yourself or did you let the school match you with those sites?

Yep, you can do all your rotations in Chicago. The school set up the majority of my rotations here (I only had to schedule one myself and I did that cause I didn't want to wait 2 wks).
Well, I wouldn't mind doing my residency here but honestly --> I can't stand the cold (I'm used to weather down South ..lol). So I'll prb keep it as my back up!
There's a list of the hospitals on the school's website. If you don't find it there PM me and I'll email it to you!
Hope that helps ;)

Since you are doing your rotations, what kind of living arrangements are you making (e.g. lease agreements)?

Well since I am finishing up all my cores in Chicago I signed a year long lease and after that if I do electives here it'll be month to month.

I heard from another student (currently there) that all cores are available in CO and NV... not sure about AZ. You may want to call or email our clinical coordinator to find out details.

Pardon my ignorance here, but I am also a new clinical transfer student... How exactly do you "Set up a rotation yourself?" What is involved? Do you just call the hospital you are interested in rotating at and speak to someone? I mean what sort of information will they ask/need from you? Does anyone know if it is possible for us to "set up" our own rotations anywhere in Texas?
Oh, and to answer the opener, if you check the school's website it looks like we have sites in Scottsdale (pretty close to phoenix - I think?) as well as Greeley (sort of close to Denver maybe?). Both of those sites have some ACGME approved programs (family I think). You can double-check the ACGME site to make sure.

in vegas we have family, peds, and IM available, not sure whether or not they are greenbook. In greeley, it's greenbook for family, so it falls under the greenbook umbrella for the rotations.

the clinical director was down here last term (i think he comes at least once a term)
he said that at the CO site, Atlanta, & Chicago -- you are able to do all your core rotations
but for example, if you do all that are available in LV (through school) and then set up the rest in LV on your own, that would be ok. however, i dont know how possible that is.

Are the rotations offered by USE at the sites you mentioned: CO, Atlanta, and Chicago all ACGME approved/Green book?? And still unsure about the cores in Vegas; are those ACGME approved/Green book as well?? I am ONLY interested in doing ACGME approved rotations!
Thanks :)

I'm quite sure they are for LSU, but are all the rotations in Louisiana green book (incl. core and electives)? Call ALL rotations be done at LSU hospitals (S'port or NO)?

Well according to the ACGME website, the only green rotations in Vegas are all affiliated with the Univ. of Nevada. Don't know if those are our rotations or not though? If you want to know if a rotation is ACGME approved just find out where the rotation is and check their website (just google acgme and it will be the second option (the listing)). I would post the link, but it says I need more posts before I can. Hope that helps.

Which Chicago site are you referring to? Aren't there 3: Cook County, Jackson Pk. and Michael Reese?

Didn't Micheal Reese shut down their residency and clinical rotations a while back?

i dont know specifics though (mainly because i have no interest in doing them in chicago :D)
i would think the same would be said for atlanta
but i would think that in the CO site there is prolly 1 big hospital, maybe a 2nd (population is only ~88k)

Yes, Micheal Reese Hospital's residency program is closing on June 24th. Another student and I were the last 2 from USESOM to finish our IM rotation there on the 13th.

So was this rotation a good onee, academic-wise?
