sudoc,
i utilized the home study kaplan books for the exam in conjunction with videos (of course first aid & such). i took notes from UW & videos within the margins so they're marked & highlighted. with this in mind, i have no need for these books-think its the 2007 series. or 2008. if you're in the states, i can send them out to you for a mere $500.00, make that $350.00, better yet $250.00, or did i hear you inquire "what about free?" i say "ok." granted they're not in the best of shape, especially the prolonged neuro section, a bit loose from the binding, let me know.

Sudoc,
First of all, usually don't excel at standardized exams but I got through this one. My opinion is the following...the single best indicator for exam preparedness was the NBME-I performed 1 & 3 & my score nestled between them. Performed NBME 1 about 3 weeks from exam, then NBME 3 about a week out. Perhaps taking one before you begin the deluge of studying is a good idea but I was focused on just getting started. I purchased the home study Kaplan series & watched the videos. The two do not mirror each other but a friend sent his copies of the Kaplan lecture notes-which flowed seamlessly with the videos. For me, the key to the exam was to be sound with the basics as abstract questions were lurking. More on exam in a moment. I also listened to Goljan audio while reading his pathology book. Performed & completed UW-the format is the same as the exam which helped...people swear by UW, yes it helps to an extent & at the same time, couple this with prior abstract comment. First Aid & buffering with varied chosen review books rounded out methodology. If I was to do it again, I would focus more on First Aid. That silly review book presents what the core of the exam thrives on: concepts. FYI, I took 7-8 weeks to study for the exam. I chose Kaplan for their concise summary of materials. The home study books may contain excessive material in my opinion (especially neurology)-lecture notes are a better mode of attack. My test featured a healthy sum of molecular biochemistry/genetics, introductory concepts in pharmacology while questions on specific drugs were as easy as identifying mode of action. Do I think the triad of Goljan, FA, UW covers preparation? It could; I felt like I needed to review the systems on my own versus UW/FA reliance. Any questions or comments, I will attempt to tell it like it is within the realm of USMLE regulations. me.
