Flying Down Tomorrow!

Hi,
Just had a few questions, I have a flight down to SXM tomorrow, and would be arriving on the island at around 2:00pm. How much cash do I need to have in my pocket? Do I have to have travellers checks? or would an ATM card work fine. what would be the best way to get in touch with yall? or is it better to just go to the cafetria and strike a puzzled pose! I have made reservations at the Dalfina hotel and would be searching for apartments starting the next day. Shouldn't take more than a couple days, right? Can one lease a car for a couple of weeks (until my own car gets there), or do they still charge by the day no matter how long ypou rent the car. Does one have to bargain/haggle about the rent with the landlords (for the apt.s) also or is THAT a fixed price? Well, in any case, if you see an asian guy with a french beard with a confused look.......that would be me! Thanks in advance

Well, you don't need traveler's checks, and I don't expect most people down here would accept them if you did have them. A bank card should work just fine, but if I were you, I would try to use ONLY the ATMs right next to a bank, and only when the banks are open (till 3PM), just in case something goes wrong and you don't get your cash, then you can go right in and complain. Come in with a few hundred bucks for now and you'll prolly be fine.

You'll prolly have to rent by the day, I don't think they'll do a short-term lease. But you should easily be able to pick up a car and rent a place within 1-2 weeks.

You could call me when you get in if you like, on my wife's phone, which is 552-6065. I'd be happy to pick you up or something, or at least get together and ** over coupla beers. Or you can msg me on here. Does the school know you are coming in so soon? We can get you hooked up with a temp pass for campus and access to the internet at school.

I just realized, I am going to be at the airport tomorrow around 2:45 picking up a friend who is flying in on Delta.... you wouldn't be ont he same flight from Atlanta, would you? Anyways, I'd be happy to help any way I can. :)
