Hmm 45GB is a decent size. However, all lectures are in powerpoint and we also get all kinds of files off of the school's hard drive. In addition, we have these huge High Definition anatomy videos that you will be uploading to your laptop for all the labs that will be performed (videos are around 400mb to 500mb each). Also, laptops will undoubtedly break down on someone during the semester, so hard drives will save you if you write your notes on your laptop. I had 160gb on the laptop and another 160gb on the hard drive so no probs. You can easily find a harddrive under 100dollars.

you will definitely be needing more than 45gb, i would suggest you buy an external drive, they are portable so you can easily carry them with you or get files from friends and vice versa, there are some good deals here western digital: All Search Results - Buy.com (http://www.buy.com/retail/usersearchresults.asp?querytype=home&qu=Western+Digital&qxt=home&display=col&dclksa=1)

Do they sell external hard drives on the island?

If you can find one at home, purchase it before leaving as it will be very expensive if you can find one in dominica

My Laptop has 120 GB and I bought another external for 120 GB. I have maxed out both. There are a TON of files on the island if you know who to ask. Videos galore - even of Kaplan lessons. Old test banks. Anatomy Prosection videos. Lecture videos. Tons and tons and tons of word documents. Old lab practical pictures. I ended up having to buy another external hard drive. I'd invest in a 500 GB - 1 Terabyte external hard drive. You could get one for $150 I think.

do you think 80GB travel drive will be ok. or you need to have a hard drive. What would the pros and cons be regarding using either a travel drive or a hard drive with equal memory. Thanks

Um, I don't think you read my post. I have a 120 GB hard drive on my laptop. I have another 120 GB External Drive. They are completely full of medical school files, videos, and pictures. So the math there is:

120
+120
= 240

So 80 GB < 240 GB. So the answer there is no. Simple, huh? I had to buy a 2nd external hard drive just to get more files. Think of it this way, its cheaper to spend $100 on an external hard drive than to actually BUY the questions, files, pictures, videos, etc. Those could run you up to $100s of dollars, esp if you're looking at something like Kaplan or Goljan's audio tapes. Whats $100 in a $200,000 debt if it helps you to succeed?

I have 580GB and still always need more, get at least 250GB, you will find that may not even be enough.
