NYS Medicine Requirements (http://www.op.nysed.gov/medlic.htm)
These are the license requirements. At least 25 colleagues of mine are either finished, in the process, or starting in july 2008 residency in NY these range from Surgery, IM, Peds, etc.

From the NY State Education Dept.,

Professional Education:
Graduates of Registered or Accredited Medical Programs Satisfactory completion of a medical program registered by the New York State Education Department as licensure-qualifying* or accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and have received the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy, or the equivalent.
*Does not include schools outside the U.S. that have received Department approval solely to contract for medical clinical experiences (clerkships) in New York State.
Graduates of Non-accredited Medical Programs Satisfactory completion of the following:

A curriculum of not less than 32 months (4 academic years) in a medical program recognized as an acceptable educational program for physicians by the appropriate civil authorities of the country in which the school is located and receipt of the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy, or the equivalent as determined by the Department. You must complete the final year of medical education at the school that awarded you the degree.
A satisfactory proficiency examination. Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification will satisfy this requirement.

Folks, there is a tendency to confuse what NY approval means. It basically means that one can do rotations in NY hospitals, and does not have to fill out one extra form when it comes to licensing (see approved schools in coolaid's link above). If you go to school w/o NY approval you cannot do more than 12 weeks of rotations in NYS hospitals. You could still do residency and get permanent license in NY, provided all of your other reqs are in order. Gee, my guess is PDs will be salivating to get you on board if you have good stats and speak Spanish, esp in NY.

Is anyone from NY or Tri-State heading to UNIBE for 2008 class? Anybody with families / kids? Or just anybody older (bet 30-40 y.o.)?

It is such a waste of time to correct misinformation that is posted on the site and creating such a disservice. Might I suggest that posters check their facts BEFORE they post what is purported to be valid information. For example, Unibe has had numerous students do clinical rotations at various major medical centers in New York. I also hasten to add that over 235+ students have completed Residency training and are licensed in the State of New York and again, trained in most of the major Medical Centers.
I am not sure what is meant by "Unibe does not have NY"......care to explain?

I think poster meant that NYS has not done a site visit to UNIBE. These schools have been evaluated by NYS and are allowed to have clinical rotations for more than 12 weeks:
