I have been accepted to 2 Caribbean and I am unable to attend due to financial institutions withdrawing from all medical schools. I found this out today and now I'm looking for other opportunities. Now, there is NO financing for several medical schools, as for private loans.

What are my chances:
-** Biology, Minor Micro/Chemistry
-cGPA - 2.6
-MGPA - 3.6
-MCAT - 16
-10 years of hospital employment with DIRECT patient care
-5 years of research, 6 publications, (Cancer Research - Leukemia)
-Stellar LOR's
-6 years of ER volunteer experience
-PS that reads like Shakespeare

I'm in a crisis here guys and I really need so advice here.

PS......I do not have physics 2, could this be waived? Is it a must that I have it??????

Thanks in advance.....

I'm assuming (from what you said of the loans) you did not apply to Ross. Here, we have federal loans.

You are EXACTLY correct. I have never applied to Ross. The loans that where pulled from my other school are private loans.....not government.

Thanks......help needed!!

I thought Physics was a must to be Pre-med. I think you should just call Ross and ask them. Not sure what schools you applied to.

if you need to go to a school with federal loans, i would suggest you try to raise your mcat score and take physics 2 since both of those deficiencies will probably cause you to get rejected from auc, ross, and sgu.

however, anything can happen and its worth a shot to call all three schools and ask about the physics waiver...... but i wouldnt hold my breath because that is a core premed class.

Accepted at St. Matthew's and St. Eustatius..........Physics 2 was NOT required for my pre-med program....

I do not think they would waive the requirement because they haven't for those that have contacted Island Thrift for advice but call and see. Good Luck!

I didn't read completely (study drag)........ I would apply to Ross after you finished physics 2 (on the site they say it is required). Then you may want to take the MCAT over (as if I remember correctly they test physics 2 concepts) to increase your grade and prevent MERP or rejection. I would definitely call the office about the physics problem.

one question though..... i thought i read on the st matts forum that equinox capital (st matts parent company) was going to become a lender for the students?

Yes, that's correct......funding for students that where already enrolled. I was accepted for fall 08.

wow, so how do expect to stay open if they wont fund any students that are only starting? very strange..... they may have an extremely small class (basically a few rich people that can pay out of pocket ).

Dr. Scott you are correct they may be assuming that you can fund caribbean medical school tuition out of pocket. It has gotten really expensive I have also been accepted to 2 caribbean medical schools and so far these schools are not title IV. The answer from most institutions that I have called today has been a resounding no. Other thank Citibank offering me a huge Home equity loan which means my mortgage payment will go up. This absolutely makes no sense. I have finally gotten to the point of actually attending medical school and now this. I hope that this situation resolves itself quickly for the sake of students that will not be able to finance this out of pocket. If anyone has funding ideas please post.

they might take you without physic (ross). I didnt have any english or organic chem complete. but i got merped. my stats were 2.3cgpa, 31 mcat, B.Eng.

Seems like these days, ross takes anyone with/without a pulse, so you never know. good luck.

They reject more people than you realize. I've spoken to MANY in the application process who were rejected.

He can apply to Ross with missing one required science class. I have spoke to admissions on this already. When I apply next year, Sept 2009, I will be short Organic 2, which I plan on taking over the summer. She said that you can be one required class short but needs to be completed prior to start date.

I was in the exact same boat as the OP - unfortunately, I sent SMU a $500.00 seat deposit upon acceptance. Well, the bottom dropped out of the loan market and they lost financial aid options, so there was no way that I could attend.

I thought about writing a letter requesting my $500 back, but it is probably a lost cause.

Stick with a federal funded school, hopefully those loans will not go away in the near future...
