I just got accepted in the sep 2008 term but I think I will be unable to attend until May 2009 or later due to some personal reasons. Do you think that Ross would defer my admission until then or would I have to apply again? If I apply again, would the fact that I turned down admission before affect my acceptance?

This topic has been discussed EVERY semester so there are plenty of threads on it. YES, you can defer admission. I beleive it's up to a year after your initial acceptance.

For those of you interested, you CANNOT defer a May acceptance to September.

Not really sure why, BUT, that's the case.

In your case bud, I think you are fine. Just let your enrollment administrator know asap what your intentions are.

I think that is specific to this current May/Sept class since the Sept class is almost full.

I was initially accepted for January 08 semester but had to deffer due to some issues at home. I simply sent an email to my student coordinator and she replied back in 2 hours or so saying I was deferred to the May 08' semester. I contacted the financial aid counselor and they took care of my loans as well. It was as simple as that...got everything done in less than 4 hours and got a letter the next week saying I was deferred into the next semester.

I dont think it should be that big of an issue since you are going from sep to may. may is usually more open and easier to get in...just call your counselor and discuss your case. hope this helps and good luck.

How do you know the September class is almost full?

They were offering 1/2 May tuition for any sept student that moved up their start date. To my knowledge, this is NOT a normal practice. They have not done this in '06 or '07. So I would say it's pretty close to being full if it's not full already.

ohh...i thought maybe you had some hard evidence. your logic may be flawed.

There is no need to insult me. The Sept class always fills up fast. You COULD always call the admission office and ask as well if you don't like my reasoning. I think Ross offering a HUGE tuition cut and telling people it's because the Sept class is pretty full is pretty good evidence though.

Sorry, I didn't mean to insult you...I don't know why you would take it as an insult...but anyways...(the post below is not an insult...just so you know)...
they are still interviewing people...i mean if they are full to the brim that they have to offer HUGE discounts to people to go into May class why would they still be interviewing more people.

What I meant when I said that your logic may be flawed is that MAYBE the reason is that they don't have enough takers for the May class and the tuition cut is an attempt to fill up the may class instead of making room in the fall class. This made more sense to me considering that they are still interviewing.

The September class is almost full. There are very few spots left. I have been told this twice by the Admissions Counselor I have been in contact with; if you'd like me to post the contents of her email(s) to me as evidence (without names of course), I can do that. I've been checking with her as I applied to the Sept. class and have yet to hear the results of my interview, and I've wanted to know if there was even a shot for September.

Please post away. I would say one word though: "Marketing". They are still interviewing people so they can't be that full...

"Almost full" and "very few" are relative terms and not exact numbers. Ever heard of the phrase "Limited time offer only".

They also will automatically accept students into the next semester if the class they are applying to is full. They wait list the students and once the 1st day of the semester passes, they will accept them into the next semester. So they can continue to interview people even if they class is full. Why are you being so nit picky about the phrases anyway?

for what it's worth, i received the offer to move my start date from the sept class to the may class and islandthrift is correct in that the e-mail stated both a large reduction in first semester tuition (50%) and that the reasoning was to open up more seats for the september because they stated that, and i quote, "at this point in time, the September class is fully subscribed." read into this however you wish but this was sent directly from ross.
Also as for deferring into the sept class, i initially did this. i have seen on the website where this is not common, but i think it's a case-by-case basis.

I don't know how much these will help, but here's what I've heard so far from one of the Admissions Counselors. In my phone call with this same counselor back in March, she had said the class was filling up which was why I kept asking for an update as we worked out my interview schedule via email. When we originally spoke on the phone she said she couldn't promise that my interview/decision would be reached in time before Sept. was full.

Email April 9:

Hi C-----,
Good to hear from you, you are on the call list but there is a big push to get our qualified May applicants interviewed. If the September class fills up in the meantime you will automatically be moved to the January class. As far as I know, there are still seats available, they are limited but we still have some available. I will do what I can to push it for you.

Email April 15:

Hi C----,
T----'s last name is H---- and he is GREAT! Since you are going for the September Class, it is usually a 3 - 4 week turnaround. You are a strong student and we are going to do our best to see if we can get you into the September class, don't forget there are still a few seats left.

I'm sure there's a combination of truth and marketing (assuming those two are mutually exclusive), so it's up to the reader to interpret where the balance is struck here. We know there are few spots left, but exactly how many I'm not sure anyone outside the Admissions Office can say.

Thanks for posting that. Yeah, it's hard to say from those e-mails whether it's truth or marketing. The e-mails sound like dangling a bait...which is just on the verge of slipping away (brilliant marketing I must say).

I was accepted for Jan '08 but deferred until May '08 and it was no problem. And, I think I read another post on here of someone who was deferring from May '08 to Jan '09 so I'm pretty sure it can be done. I first e-mailed my interviewer about it and he directed me to the right office to officially defer.
