GMC assures you that the rotations are “green”, but SMU doesn’t recognize it as ACGME. Some of the rotations are ok and most of them are out-patient in private practices. You will go to some of the hospitals, but your presence there will be minimum. GMC group staff are not the easiest people to deal with, although you can get around and get what you want,... sometimes. If you do electives there you will have to pay around $ 800 extra per rotation because they charge $300 per week and SMU only pays $ 135 per week.
Advantages: you can set you rotations uninterrupted and get a lease for place to live for one year or more. You will have one of the centers for the USMLE CS in Atlanta.

Does anyone know how placement in clinicals are determined? Is it based on marks, Step 1 or both?

both, I believe something along the lines of 80% basic science grades, and 20% step 1 score
