Hi all,

I was wondering if it's worth bringing the Bates Book for Dr-Pt and society in 1st sem? Also all the instruments - tuning forks, etc? Do we use that in 1st sem or second sem?

Thanks in advance.

The lecture slides are sufficient for DPS. As for instruments, you will just be doing anatomy lab and blood pressure training at the end of the semester.

People swear by it for the SHELF, but I don't like it. It doesn't have enough information, either for the SHELF or the class. And before you ask about the BRS, it has way too much information for either. Study the notes like crazy and do their practice questions is enough for Neuro.

Hmm, I just bought the BRS for next semester.......is it that bad?

Everyone has their own ways of studying ans what works for one person, may not work for another. Who knows, it could be an excellent purchase for you or it could collect dust. I personally swear by BRS.

No, its useful (particularly the practice questions, as questions are a pain to find for neuro) but you'll find yourself skipping a lot of sections of chapters and even chapters themselves either because the class never mentioned it or you spent 15 minutes on it in class and there are 20 pages on it in the BRS.

If Dr. C still does the cerebellum lecture, I will say that is the most memorable lecture in all 4 semesters here I had. Complicated, intricate topic that is taught in the most painful, painful way. Ugh.

YOu don't need Bates until 3rd semester.
I guess you can bring steth and the BP cuff thing for 1st. You only get to use it once.

I think neuro HY is good but Kaplan neuro is better (my preference).
