46 to old to enter med school?

Can I get into a Phillipine med school at 46 years of age with a good NMAT score, 4 year degree in sciences with all of the prerequisites?

I don't frankly know if you can get into a Filipino school or not... but I know a 51-year-old first year medical student in the States! It's not impossible.

Don’t let age factor into you decision. I was watching Trauma Life in the Er last night and there was a doctor on there that did not enter medical school until he was 43.

Most med schools now don't require any prerequisites. They just need a Bachelors degree (in anything). Many schools does not even have a strict NMAT cutoff (those are wish list). As long as you have taken NMAT (regardless of scores) and have a Bachelor's degree you can get accepted (except in a few schools like govt schools like UP or PLM, even UST is moderately competitive). The only problem is you have to review for your USMLE independently from day 1 as their style of teaching and testing is different.

i suggest u go for it...ur classmates will be half ur age...but still...go for it!!! besides ur only 46...ull be a doctor by 50...lets say u die at 80...u still have time to practice!! good luck :D

There was a period in the not-so-distant past:lol: when some schools have an age limit of 35 years. Nowadays, anybody who can pay can get in SOME schools just like Nursing.

Dreams are funny in that they never die...and they'll always linger in the back of your mind if it is really something that you want to do. I've been chasing the same dream for some time. I wanted to share with you an excerpt from an email that I received from a 2nd year osteopathic student from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine:

"Well, now I know why they gave me your name. I'm 56 and started med school at 55. It took me nine years to get here. I got something like a 2.5 in undergrad back in the 70s and my premed coursework was a little better.

I have a masters degree in theology and got something like a 3.12. More graduate work in theology and the gpa went higher. My MCATS -- I took the thing three times -- weren't great but they weren't bad, either. I got a T also in the written -- congratulations on that. It's nice to know we're in the very top tier somewhere in the MCAT! Anyhow, the point is, you can get into medical school, especially with all your experience and that is what probably tipped the balance for me. I've been a minister since 1972 and was a practicing psychotherapist for several years while applying. "

The man was 55 when he started...and now he's thriving as a 2nd year med. student. So...no...you're not too old. Go make your dream a reality buddy!

you should go for it man! although I'll warn you I was browsing through websites of medical schools and if my memory serves me right I did see a cut off age of 35 in one of them...none the less just inquire and don't let some of these schools discourage u in attaining your dreams

Hey! I actually know this guy (the 55yo @ UNECOM). He is going to be a great doctor, and he's a terrific person and an inspiration to be around. This is a perfect example of why you don't let other people tell you whether or not you can/should pursue your dreams.
